stars: 3 (out of 5) An improvement over the charming yet outdated Swiss Family Treehouse. There's only so many times you can see it, though.

. . . The view of the park from the top of the tree is still great. Just don't look back towards New Orleans Square or you'll get an eyeful of the buildings' air conditioning units . . .
. . . There are quite a few nice interactive features in the safari camp at the base of the tree. Make sure you tug on the ropes that hang down from the branches to hear a variety of jungle sounds. Also, in one corner there is a stove with a dying fire. If you stoke the flames by pressing on the bellows, the teapot on top will begin to boil and whistle. . .
. . . If you wait around long enough at the top of the treehouse where Sabor the leopard prowls, you will hear her roar ferociously and feel the rush of her breath. If you're not expecting it, it'll startle you! . . .
pointless trivia
- A phonograph at the base of the tree in the safari camp area plays "Swisskapolka," the theme for the Swiss Family Robinson, the former tenants of the treehouse.
- Tarzan, an enormously popular twentieth century character on the screen and in print, was created by Edgar Rice Burroughs in 1912. Burroughs introduced him in the pulp magazine All-Story with the novel-length story, "Tarzan of the Apes: A Romance of the Jungle." Incidentally, The Swiss Family Robinson was written exactly one hundred years earlier by Johann David Wyss. Both popular novels concern a proper European family being stranded in an exotic, tropical jungle and the ways in which they adapt to the wilderness. This literary tradition of the "shipwrecked" civilized man can be traced back to one of the first English novels, Robinson Crusoe, which was written by Daniel Defoe and published in 1719.
- The treehouse towers seven stories above the jungle floor. (Disneyland - Memories of a Lifetime) - search for it on amazon.com
- The tree itself weighs 150 tons and features 450 branches and 6,000 leaves. It is anchored to the ground by "roots" that reach 42 feet into the ground.(Ibid)
- TEST: One of the tree's lower branches bears a warning for tall treehouse explorers. What does it say? Answer Below
