We used to go to Hermitage Landing Campground
on Percy Priest Lake several times during the summer. They stopped allowing camping at their primitive lake sites several years ago, although they still have a camping/RV Park.
We liked camping at Site II. My mom camped there when she was 9 or 10 years old, when the Percy Priest Lake was but 4 years impounded. The Hermitage Landing people took over the property in a lease from the Corp of Engineers in the early-mid 70s and the area had been closed for years. There is an old picnic area with concrete tables and grills still standing in the woods. The area has been allowed to grow wild for 20 years or more. It is kind of strange to walk through the woods and see picnic tables and grills. The Site II area was once a beach area. The poles and cables outlining the beach area have rusted and are mostly gone. But it is still a cool place to camp. Once, a skunk came right through our campsite. We followed him a while, but didn't get too close. He did stop and look at us a time or two, but mostly ignored us. Hermitage Landing was changed to Nashville Shores a couple years ago. It is a really cool water park now. The park is under new ownership this year and they have spent a lot of money fixing the place up. They also have a water park, several BIG water slides, a beach, mini golf, paddle boats, playgrounds, campgrounds for RVs, arcades, skating. We have not camped there lately, but we go there to play several times in the summer. There is lots to do.
