Rock Island State Park is located between Sparta and McMinnville, Tennessee, just off US 70S. It has 50 campsites with electricity and water, 2 bath houses and is open year round. There is a natural sand swimming beach on Center Hill Lake, an archery range, a general store, a hiking trail that includes a beautiful overlook over Great Falls. | Our first trip camping there in the summer of 1996. I went with my Mom, Robin, Dustin and Brandi. We camped in a tent, swam on the beach (there is a playground on the beach) and hiked around some waterfalls. There are a lot of waterfalls at this park. Some of the nicest ones are on the hiking trails; you can walk right through them. It is very cool to climb under the waterfalls and go under the huge rock overhangs. It is a very nice park. We drove up again in April of 1999 to look around and pick out a good camping spot for later in the season. We had a picnic lunch then went and hiked some of the trails through the waterfalls again. We didn't get to play on the playground, the beach was flooded from the spring rains. We did pick out which camp sites were our favorites, so when we call to reserve them we can get the exact ones we like. I can't wait to go back to Rock Island again. I hope we get to go this summer.
