Note from Lisa!
First, I would like to appologize for not getting the Newsletter out
on time. September flew by in a blur, and Its hard to believe it is
already October.
We know a lot of kids are going to be 'Blue' or 'Magenta' or even
'Steve' this Halloween, and we would love to see all the great
costumes that your Moms and Dad's have made for you. Send us your
pictures of you in your costume (with Mom or Dad's Permission) and
we will put them up on our site, and put a link in our next newsletter.
We will post them and then have everyone vote on the costumes, and
give an award to the top three winners! Even Mom and Dad can enter
if they dress up like a Blue's Clues Character!! Lets all have some
fun! I can't wait until Halloween is here!

Christian's Story
-----------------
From Beth Anderson, Christian's mom
My son Christian loves Blue's Clues. He is 3 years old and has
cerebral palsy. His birthday was June 2 and we had a Blue's Clues
party. He recently had surgery on his hip and was home recovering when
he received a package from his "aunt" Sarah, who is my best friend. We
opened it up and found a picture of Blue and Steve, with a message:
"To Christian: You are so smart! Love, Steve." Well, of course I had
to e-mail my friend and ask her how she got her hands on such a great
gift! Here's the story:
She and her sister work at a store. One day, an old friend of her
sister's from high school came in the store. They chatted a bit, and
when he left, he gave her his business card. She noticed that the
business card had Blue's pawprint on it, so she asked him about it. He
works for the show! So my friend asked her sister to ask her friend to
ask Steve if he would do something special for Christian. The picture
was a result!
This goes to show that Blue's Clues is not only a great show, but
it has great people working on it: people who put children first!

Stop by http://www.oocities.org/Heartland/Village/9948/ and say "Hi"
to Christian.
-------
Crayons
-------
I am sure that anyone who has purchased a Notebook or even the Subway
Notebook, know how the paper on the crayon is torn pretty quick. This
makes an upset youngone.
What one mom did with all of her son's crayons to prolong their life
is to get scotch tape and tape around where the paper is. It makes the
crayon stronger and you still see a wrapper.
Also, If you want to create a crayon, you can wrap a black crayon with
some green striped paper(either print it out or color white paper).
She did this and it worked out fine. He doesn't know the difference.
Maybe Nickelodeon will start producing replacement crayons to go with
the Notebook. (Hint, Hint Nickelodeon)
Steve's Shirt
-------------
If you are lucky you can purchase a "Steve's Shirt" from Nickelodeon,
but they sell real quick. Here is what Shani did to create her own
Shirt.
She had to make her own out of green polo shirts using bleach and
masking tape. Ok, clever in a pinch, yes... but a pain none the less.
Wood Cut-outs
-------------
We cut out of wood some Blue, Pawprints, Mailbox, Tickety-tock. And are
painting them for Christmas Decorations. You can see the unpainted
wood cutouts at http://www.bcity.com/lisa/wood4.gif and
http://www.bcity.com/lisa/wood2.gif. We have painted Blue, 3 pawprints
and are working on Magenta and TicketyTock. We are having so much fun
painting them. I wish that Nickelodeon would come out with activities
and crafts for older kids to do. (Including me *S*)
-------
Remember, if you have any pictures or drawings or ideas of Blues
Clues, please let us know and we will be happy to put it in the next
newsletter. Or if you would like to submit any articles, send them to
mailto:willie-dyllan@geocities.com?subject=Newsletter.

Blue's Clues - in France
------------------------
Cannes, France -- October 5, 1998 -- Nickelodeon, the worldwide
entertainment company dedicated to kids, has signed a deal with Radio
Televisione Italiana (RAI), Italy's public broadcaster and one of the
largest producers of television programming in the world, to
produce the first localized foreign language version of Blue's Clues,
Nickelodeon's breakthrough, interactive show for preschoolers.
In Italy, RAI will localize the series by using blue-screen technology
to insert an Italian host into the existing computer animation. The
launch of Blue's Clues in Italy follows on the heels of its successful
launch in the U.S. in September 1996 where it is now the among the
top rated preschool shows for kids ages two to five on U.S.
commercial television.

September Survey
----------------
For Septembers survey, Carrie come up with a Great Idea! We would like
to know what Blue's Clues items you want Nickelodeon to make. We will
send the results to Nickelodeon, and see what they think. :-) We have
had people suggest Blues Clues Toothbrush, Big house shoes with Blue's
Head, Pillow Pals, slippers, and lots more. You tell us what you
would like to see, and list everything you would like to see. :-) We
will tell the percentage of each item. :-)
Since we are late getting the newsletter out this month, we are going
to just keep the Survey up for October, and have a new one in October. :-)
We have had a lot of great ideas! Maybe they will get the hint and
start making more items.
When I talked to them, they said that they were keeping everything
geared towards Preschoolers and not towards older kids or Parents.
I think we need to change their minds! Maybe we can! So please
submit your ideas, either by filling out or survey, or just email them
to me if you would like. mailto:lisap@mindless.com?subject=Survey
--
Thanks in advance for helping and filling out this survey.
Survey - http://www.oocities.org/~willie-dyllan/blue/survey.html

If you have a suggestion, for a survey, please let us know. If we
don't get a good response from the next surveys, we will be dropping
this portion of the newsletter. :-)

ideas from other Blue's Clues Fans. :-) For a listing of previous
months ideas, you can got
http://www.oocities.org/~willie-dyllan/blue/partyideas.html.
Also, there were a lot of people that said "Thank you for the great
ideas, so that their child could have a great Blue's Birthday Party!".
Here are this month ideas.
Party Favors
------------
From Tracy:
She had a great idea for party favors for her son's birthday party.
She went to quite a few sites, including ours and downloaded all the
pictures that she could find and made the children coloring books!
The book itself was made out of the cheapy folders you can get for ten
cents a piece and she plans on putting their names and Clues on the
front of the folder. They turned out really cute because you can pick
and choose the pictures, mazes, etc., that apply to a certain age.
Zachary's Birthday
------------------
by his Grandma.
For my grandson's birthday party, we cut a paw print from a sponge
and sponge painted paw prints on inexpensive t-shirts for all the
children. I also used the same sponge to make wrapping paper. I
sponged the paw prints onto white freezer paper. We used blue party
supplies, had a "Blue's Clues" search, used the Subway toys to decorate
a blue cake, etc. Zachary's birthday party was a big success!
Mailbox
-------
Last month we told you how to make a 'mailbox' for your child. One
parent made a 'mailbox' and then had all the kids at her daughters
birthday party put their cards for her in the mailbox. She also
purchased inexpensive Salt & Pepper shakers and Made Mrs. Pepper &
Mr. Salt for decorations.
Salt & Pepper
------------
Kathy purchased salt & pepper shakers and painted a face on them. She
then took black foam (found in a craft store) and cut out arms to hot
glue on the jars.
Birthday Cake
-------------
By Kathy,
For the cake I am going to make the motts recipe in a large sheet cake
pan. I am then going to frost it with white and put colored sprinkles
all over it. I have printed a picture of Blue from the internet for
the top. To transfer the picture you place the paper on top of the
cake and use a toothpic to poke holes through the paper and the cake
creating an "outline" of the picture. I then take my black outlining
frosting and go over the picture. Next, fill in the picture of Blue.
I did this last year with a picture of Ernie when my son wanted
something that they dont have a pan for. I have never taken a cake
decorating class so if I can do it, it must be easy!!! : )
Older kids & Blue
-----------------
We have some requests for Blue's Clues Party Ideas for older kids (6 to
13) for Birthday Parties. They are looking for games or other fun
things, so if you have any please let us know! Thanks!

CHARACTER OF THE MONTH
**********************
The character of the month is....Steve! This strange and confused man
is played by Steven Burns. He wears the same kind of outfit every day.
A green stripped long-sleeved polo shirt, khakis, and brown shoes.
Occasionally, he tops it off with an apron or a special hat, depending
on the episode. He is the one that sings the really catchy songs and
he finds the clues. Steve makes us laugh, sing, and play along with
him as we find our clues.
