From the Editor
***************
January 1998, we decided to start this Unofficial Blue's Clues Fan
Club, after we had several people suggest that we start one. We have
put out 9 Newsletter in 1998 and grew to over 4500 families in our Fan
club! We are so happy that everyone has helped us make this Fan Club
so great!! Without you this newsletter would not have been so great!!
We are probably going to put out a newsletter about once every other
month now. We will contact everyone if something important is
happening, in between newsletters. We will also keep our web site up
to date with any informatin we come across.
We would like to welcome our newest Fan Club members and expecially our
New canadian Members!
We are working on getting membership cards available, but want to get
Nickelodeon and Viacom's approval before doing so. We are also working
on creating an icon that you can put on your webpage that says you are
a member of the Unofficial Blue's Clues Fan Club. So everyone will
know, and help get the word out to those new Blue's Clues Fans!
We look forward to 1999 and Blue's Clues!

Steve & Rumors
--------------
Its amazing, when a person or a show becomes popular, that the rumors
just starting going wild. I would like to confirm to everyone that the
rumor about Steve either died from an overdose of some sort of drug, or
that he is in the hospital dying, is NOT True! He is very alive and
very well! On 12/17, he went on the ROSIE O'DONNELL SHOW to let
everyone know that he is alive and well. If anything were to happen to
Steve, would would have it posted on our site in big letters. I am
sure that the Nick site would also have something posted.
Nickelodeon is Cable's Number One Rated Network for 1998! - 12/16/98
-----------
New York, NY -- December 16, 1998 -- Fueled by its schedule of
critically-acclaimed original productions for kids and beloved TV hits
for adults programmed throughout the day, Nickelodeon/Nick at Nite will
finish 1998 as the number one cable network in total day ratings, and
is leading its closest competitor by 100 percent, according to Nielsen.
The victory marks the third consecutive year that Nickelodeon/Nick at
Nite has topped all cable networks in total day ratings (Monday-Sunday,
6 am-6 am).
During the year, there were a number of notable programming highlights
on Nickelodeon and Nick at Nite that generated the network's ratings
victory, including:
- Nick Jr.'s Blues's Clues, starring Steve Burns and his computer
animated puppy Blue, emerged as a phenomenon and the most-watched
preschool program on television with over 4 million K2-5 viewers
per week.
(As if we didn't know that it was great!)
Noggin, Cable's First 24 Hour Education Channel/On-line for Kids
-------------
Anaheim, CA - December 2, 1998 - Noggin, the first 24-hour kids'
thinking channel from Nickelodeon and Children's Television Workshop,
will launch simultaneously as a digital network and on-line site on
February 2, 1999. The announcement was made today by Tom Ascheim,
General Manager, Noggin.
Noggin's breakthrough mission will be to serve kids' (ages 2-12)
natural desire to learn, by creating a new educational medium --
combining television and on-line -- where learning is driven by them.
During the first phase of Noggin's development, kids will be asked to
help create Noggin by contributing questions, stories, poems, ideas and
suggestions that will be featured on-air and on-line. Noggin will
explore topics and issues that kids say they care about, while engaging
them in regular conversation on-air and on-line to find out what they
want to learn more about.
"Noggin will be unique, because, unlike anything else currently on
television, its focus will be about kids' desire to learn, taken from a
kid-centric point of view," Ascheim said. "Instead of trying to force
education to be fun, Noggin will make fun educational. Kids never lose
their desire to explore and discover, and Noggin's goal will be to feed
that appetite."
In a recent cable operator survey conducted by Beta Research, Noggin
ranked as one of the new channels that cable operators said they were
most interested in carrying by the end of 1999. Noggin was also
distinguished by being the only channel not yet launched to be among
the top 10 channels operators said they were most interested in adding.
Drawing on CTW and Nickelodeon's combined 50 years of experience,
Noggin's launch programming schedule will feature signature series from
the libraries of both networks. Remaining true to program standards
set by CTW and Nick Jr., Noggin's programming will run without
commercial interruption. Noggin will establish relationships with
underwriting corporate sponsors, and will provide sponsors with select
spots to run at the beginning or conclusion of Noggin programs.
Launching simultaneously with the channel, the Noggin on-line site will
be used to fuel the network's connection to kids and complement the
programming on television. The site will ask kids to "build" Noggin,
and will include a wide range of information, communication and
activities for kids, their parents and teachers -- as well as content
from the acclaimed sites of Nickelodeon and CTW.
Noggin's programming schedule will be distinguished by dayparts that
are programmed to appeal to its targeted viewers. Noggin will feature
the longest preschool block available on television (5 am-2 pm ET/PT),
and will boast a cohesive mix of some of television's most acclaimed
series from CTW and Nick Jr., including Blue's Clues, Sesame Street,
Gullah Gullah Island and The Electric Company. Noggin's afternoon block
will be geared toward older children (6-12) with such shows as 3-2-1
Contact, Ghostwriter and Doug. During evening hours Noggin will offer
programming for its entire audience, and at night again program for
older kids with shows such as Nick News and Square One. Noggin's
overnight lineup will feature classic educational programs with
nostalgic appeal.
Noggin, a joint venture between CTW and Nickelodeon, is the nation's
first 24-hour fully-integrated educational network and on-line service
that will be dedicated to educating and entertaining kids between the
ages of 2-12. Noggin is the flagship network of a package of channels
from Nickelodeon including GAS, Nickelodeon's Games and Sports Network,
that will be part of "The Suite" from MTV Networks.
Preschool Software With a Clue
----------------
Nickelodeon's first CD-ROM titles based on Emmy-nominated Blue's Clues
- Blue's ABC Time Activities and Blue's Birthday Adventure - were
released to retail stores on September 1. They have since topped PC
Data's "Top Selling Education Software List," in the No. 1 and No. 2
spots. Together, the titles have sold more units than any software
title in the month of September, except Microsoft's Windows 98 Upgrade.
