Hello and welcome to our May-June 1999 Newsletter!

We are running a little behind getting the May-June Newsletter out,
so we would like to say thank you to all those who have patiently
waited for the newsletter.

We hope everyone had a great Mother's Day. We wish everyone a Happy
Father's Day, and to all our American Fan Members a Happy and safe 4th
of July!

Most kids are getting out for the Summer or already may be out. We
are always looking for kids (or adults) that would like to submit an
article or puzzles for our next newsletter. (July-August). We would
love to see pictures of anyone that sees the Blue's Clues Puppet Shows
 (listed below under "News").

We would like to make sure you check out our Blue's Clues News section,
as there is more information on the Recall of the Handy Dandy
Notebooks. This is very important if you have a small child.

Here are some more great Party Ideas!!

Lisa E.
------
For her son's 3rd birthday party they did a Blue's Clues party. They
bought Salt & Pepper Shakers from the local dollar store, added a
face with a permanent paint pen to make them look like Mr. Salt & Mrs.
Pepper & then filled them with M&M candies or Cheerios depending
upon the age of the child. They went into their "Goodie Bags" to take
home; the goodie bags were a Bucket & Shovel decorated with a
permanent pen face to look like Shovel & Pail.

Christine
---------
She wanted to share an idea She came up with for a Blues Clues
Birthday Party for my son. She made a Handy Dandy Notebook pinata.
She used a square shaped box and paper machied it. Then She painted
the box to resemble the Handy Dandy Notebook. She drilled holes
along the top and inserted red pipe cleaners to look like the red
spiral binding on the Handy Dandy Notebook.

She also bought a Blues Clues Playhouse which came with Steve, Blue,
the Thinking Chair, Slippery Soap, and a wagon. She used the
accessories as cake decorations for her son's birthday party and he
got to have the items for a birthday present afterwards.

Laurie
------
- A red bucket and yellow shovel.
- A yellow cake mix, vanilla pudding and nilla wafers
- Bake the cake according to directions in 2 round pans
- Make the pudding according to directions
- Crush the nilla wafers.
- After the cake is cool cut in half and then each half into 3 - 4
  strips.
- Layer cake, finished pudding, and nilla wafer crumbs in the pail,
and repeat 2-3 times until pail is full

Serve with the shovel

Ronald
------
- Use portable play mail kit to put out of town birthday cards in and
  put with other presents.
- Paint a tickety tock clock on slate or wood to say party time put
hands on the party time and hang by door.

Kim
---
They made Blue bracelet with Blue beads.

Carol
-----
Buy white paper placemats, Blue's Clues stickers, and assorted
birthday stickers (hats, streamers, balloons, presents, etc.) Let the
children design and decorate their own placemats using the stickers,
markers, and crayons. Remember to write each child's name on his/her
placemat. Cover the placemat on both sides with clear contact paper.
The children can use their personalized placemats at the party and
then take them home as party favors.

Cindie
------
She found blue filled Oreo's at Walmart! And also baked blue
cupcakes for her son Joseph's b-day party. She bought that $27
inflatable red blues clues chair that they sell at walmart, sit each
child as they walk in on it holding blue's stuffed animal and take
pictures of them to send off w/ them at the end of the party.

Angela
------
She had a BLUE'S CLUES party for her son's 4th birthday and it went
great Here is what she said they did!
- We painted blue paw prints all the way up the drive way to the back
yard the kids loved it
- We printed off paw prints from one of the links that you offer and
made a game by coloring all the prints the same except one and
putting them all over the house for a "which is different" game
- I took a picture of BLUE to the printer and had them blow it up
to the size of my son colored it had it laminated and put it on the
front of the house to let people know it was his birthday
- We printed off all your color pages and made copies and made
everyone a coloring book
- I copied and colored a BLUE for everyone and put their name on it
laminated it and used it for place markers.
- We used the mail box and flag for our pin the flag and on the mail
box I laminated it and the kids still use it.
-We had a great party thank you for all your help.

Deborah, Josh & Jake
--------------------
Here is what Deborah did for her Son's Birthday party!

- *make "puppy chow" (melt 1 cup of peanut butter and 1 bag chocolate
chips; stir in chex cereal; coat with powdered sugar by shaking
mixture and sugar in clean garbage bag) and serve in doggy bowl.

- *use the Wilton Singles pawprint pan and mold rice crispie treats
in them (dye marshmallow mixture blue for even more fun!).

- *Make rice crispie treats, and cut out with bone shaped cookie
cutter.

- *Make homemade icecream and add blue food coloring.

- *make sugar cookies cut out in dog bone shapes.

These are a few of the ideas I used for a party for my son, Joshua,
who was 2 in Feb. I am using many other ideas from your website.
We want to thank you for maintaining such a fun web site. We have
enjoyed it quite a bit this winter.

Tina
----
All your party ideas are great! We have one you might like to add.
For table settings we bought big red cups(like Silo's) the used pipe
cleaners for handles, then out of yellow consrcution paper cut shovels,
and put each guests name on the shovel and glued them to the cup(pail)
,then filled each one with goodies, and set them where each child
would sit.

-----

Thank you to everyone for your great ideas!! Some we have had for a
little while, but we finally got them in the newsletter!!!

NICKELODEON AND GENERAL MILLS PARTNER FOR FIRST NICK JR. PROMOTION
Cereal company to support hit preschool show, Blue's Clues
----------------
New York, NY - May 3, 1999 - Nickelodeon and General Mills have
partnered for their first preschool promotion in support of the
network's hit Nick Jr. series, Blue's Clues. The promotion, which
starts in June, involves two of General Mills' well-known family
cereals, Kix and Apple Cinnamon Cheerios, which will feature the
preschool series on more than five million packages.
The promotion features self-liquidating offers of Blue's Clues product on Kix and Apple Cinnamon Cheerios. The boxes, picturing the show's animated girl puppy Blue, give kids and parents a chance to mail in proofs of purchase for Simon & Schuster books: Blue's Lost Backpack, Hide and Seek with Blue, Magenta's Visit and Blue's Big Birthday. General Mills will support the promotion with a tagged television spot and free-standing inserts. Blue's in the News ------------------ In the March 1999 issue of Child Magazine, they had a chat with Blue's Clue's Steve. Who's that guy in the green rugby shirts who prompts you child to call out to the TV? Child went straight to the set of Blue's Clues to find out more about the real "Steve"?: Steve Burns Q: Why so you think Blue's Clues is such a success? A: We speak to kids like kids, but we have some very groundnut motives. We're trying to educate them. Children don't just watch Blue's Clues, they play it. Q: Why do you think children find Steve so appealing? A: He needs their help to do the show, and that's pretty cool. They're doing him a favor. And hopefully, I make them laugh, too. Q: What would you like parents to know about he show? A: It's okay if their kids are standing, jumping up and down, dancing, or waving at the TV Screen -that's a positive thing. Blue's Clues is not just an entertainment show, it's really teaching things like cognitive thinking. That's why one episode airs five times a week. Repetition is the key to mastery for young kids. Q: Speaking of repetition, do you think Steve will ever change his shirt? A: I don't think so. If Grover were red or had polka dots, kids would be traumatized. The green rugby shirt is Steve. It helps to define him. And soon kids will meet Steve's Grandma. She wears a matching green rugby dress! Thank you to Heidi, who fowarded this to us! Sears ----- Sears is continuing to carry all the Official Blue's Clues Clothing, and their selection continues to change. They are now carrying the Twin Bedding Sheet Sets! And the Blue's Clues Comforter. The Sheets are running $29.99 and the Comforter is $59.99! There are two different sheet sets. You can also purchase Pillowcases separately, and they come in two differnt designs (differnt than the sheet set). They also carry a fleece blanket, that sells for $24.99. Sears is also carrying Tennis Shoes up to the size of 10. And Sandles to size 10. Remember to join their kids club when you purchase kids clothing. You can get a 15% discount off your next purchase, after purchasing $100 in clothes. (doesn't have to be in one purchase). CPSC, Colorbok Announce Recall of Toy Notebooks -------- In cooperation with the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC), Colorbok, of Dexter, Mich., is voluntarily recalling the red plastic coils atop its Blue's Clues Handy Dandy Notebook, upon discovering that the coil can break off, potentially presenting a hazard to small children. Consumers should call Colorbok toll free anytime at (877) 677-4725 to obtain a free replacement coil and for further information. Colorbok has been very proactive and took immediate action on this issue by initiating this voluntary recall after being made aware of one incident where the end piece of the coil had broken off. There have been no reports of injuries. Consumers can identify the recalled notebooks which are 4 inches wide and 4 inches long by looking for the words "1998 Colorbok Paper Products Inc." on the notebook's back cover. The notebook has red coils; the front and back cover are green with a black border; the inside wipe-off pages are yellow and a red chair appears on the front cover. Several versions of this notebook are made by a number of companies, however, only the Colorbok notebook is being recalled. Colorbok notebooks with "Version 2" on the back cover or lower edge of the package are not involved in this recall. Information about this recall and other consumer product recalls is also available on the internet at www.cpsc.gov. Blue's Clues Puppet Attraction ----------- Nick Jr.'s Blue's Clues Puppet Attraction is a traveling, interactive show designed especially for preschoolers. The attraction brings Nick Jr.'s award-winning preschool program, Blue's Clues, to life with interactive games, replicas of Blue's House and Thinking Chair, and of course, Blue! With the help of Ron, our "Puppet Assistant", Blue welcomes the kids and encourages them to get involved, and help solve a number of clues, just like on TV. Once the kids have helped Blue complete her task, they'll each have an opportunity to sit in the Thinking Chair with Blue and have their picture taken. A Blue's Clues activity sheet is also available to enhance the event. The activity sheet gives kids a chance to solve problems and color their favorite characters from the award-winning preschool program. 1999 EVENTS: Saturday & Sunday, June 5 & 6 Kings Dominion Doswell, VA Friday - Sunday, June 11-13 Paramount's Carowinds Charlotte, NC Saturday & Sunday, June 19-20 Paramount King's Island Kings Island, OH Saturday & Sunday, June 26-27 Paramount Canada's Wonderland Toronto, Ontario CANADA Saturday & Sunday, July 17-18 Paramount's Great America Santa Clara, CA Saturday & Sunday, July 31-Aug 1,Paramount King's Island, OH Saturday, August 7 Post Oaks Mall College Station, TX Friday - Sunday, August 20-22 Kings Dominion Doswell, VA October 2-3 Kid Zone Children's Festival Jackson, MS Show times TBD ************************ Blues Merchandise Update ************************ Paramount Video - Blue's Clues Treasure Hunt Video - Release date June 22nd Also includes "Blue's Clues News" Eden LLC - Steve Doll (Finally!) - NOW available - Magenta - NOW available - Finger puppet Theater - NOW available - Soft Playhouse Includes Blue, Steve, Mailbox, a cardboard Thinking Chair and more) - Talking Blue & Steve!
