The Velociraptor was among the fastest dinosaurs. They were bipedal carnivores (walked on two legs, meat-eaters). It had long-thin legs with four-toes clawed feet. One large and sickle-like claw on each foot. The Velociraptor's arm had three-fingered clawed hands. Its neck was S-shaped. It had a long, flat snout. Its head was 7 inches long, with 30 sharp curved teeth. It had very large eyes, which may have be with 3-dimensional vision. It used its stiff tail for a counter balance and agility in turning. The Velociraptor was very light weight, weighing between 30 and 213 pounds. It was about the size of a wolf or dog. It is believed that it could probably also jump.
The Velociraptor was from the Dromaeosaurid family which were the most intelligent among the dinosaurs. It had a very large brain in relation to its body size. With this larg brain and being the most powerful fighters around, they were probably very deadly.
Velociraptor's were from the Saurischian order, or lizard-hipped dinosaurs. And from the Theropod suborder. It's family was Dromaeosaurid (droh-ME-oh-SORE-id) or bipedal carnivores with the largest brains. The Velociraptor's infraorder was Deinonychosauria. It was a cousin to Deinonychus antirrhopus.
The Velociraptor hunted in packs. It was a carnivore and probably ate anything it could slash and tear apart. It probably would use its specialty, Triple combo when attaching. Teeth, hand and claws, and a double drop-kick.
Fossils were first found and described by H.F. Osborn in Mongolia in 1924. About a dozen fossils have been found. One of the Velociraptors died in battle with a Protoceratops. The protoceratops had the Velociraptors arm in his mouth, when it died. This fossil was found in 1971, in Mongolia. Fossils have been found in East Asia in Mongolia, Russia, and China.
