Room Five's
Big Day Out.
Room Five have been
part of a travel Buddy Project. Prickles the International Hedgehog
visited us. She came from Loogootee Elementary School in
Indiana.
We decided to take her
on our class "Big Day Out."
We travelled from
school with parent helpers to Mr. O'Donnell's Pottery Studio near the
small town of Paeroa.. Mr. O'Donnell makes huge garden sculptures and
all sorts of dishes and tiles from clay. Prickles listened very
carefully to what he had to say about caring for our environment. If
you look carefully you will find Prickles sitting very still in
Rebecca's hands.
We went on a tramp in
the Karangahake Gorge. Here are Joshua, Arleye and Corey showing
Prickles the view.
Part of the walk was
through a dark tunnel. It was scarey. We carried torches with us to
see the way. Everyone made spooky noises. Prickles did not mind a
bit. She said she was used to being out and about in the
dark!
Tiffany, Christopher,
Glenn, Joshua and Michael are coming out of the tunnel. Tiffany's Mum
is with them.
We also took Prickles
on a steam train ride.
We were so excited we
forgot to take a photo!
November 22nd 1998.
Prickles is flying to South
Africa now. While she was staying with Room Five a Reporter came to
visit. Tiffany and Analyce had their photo taken with Prickles and it
was put in the local newspaper. We were all excited about it. Our
local radio station got to hear about Prickles and they talked about
her on the local news. She was a real celebrity while she was at
Hikutaia school.
We know that Mrs
Bruton's Class in South Africa will enjoy having her as much as we
did.
Safe journey
Prickles.
