Aim: To use the web site "Hedgehog" as a basis for integrating
the Internet in a science / reading research project about
Hedgehogs.

Objectives:
The children will,
Produce a booklet, chart or web page providing
future readers with accurate information about Hedgehogs in New
Zealand. (Group decision)
Use the Internet to research information about a
hedgehog kept as a class pet in America.
Continue to develop skills as to the use of the
Internet - logging off and on line, using bookmarks amd the
printer.
Reading Skills and Activities:
Discussion of new vocabulary both on web page and
in journals.
Make a topic word list.
Vocabulary extension - use word search print out
sheet.
Children give meanings of words used in text in
their own words.
Alphabetical order. (locating images or web pages
in a directory)
Locating key words - highlight these in
photocopied text. (Maybe printed from the Hedgehog page.)
Methods:
Group instruction as to the use of the Internet.
Children will be asked to locate the site using Bookmarks, open pages
needed and then log off while they answer questions etc. They also
need to know how to locate the printer.
Pair/Share for the Online Hedgehog quiz.
Group activity for Cloze reading worksheet, maybe
teacher or Aide directed.
Draft books used to write information for
presentation, followed by conferencing to check work - (accuracy of
information, spelling, structure etc)
Pair/Share for use of the Word search. Children
print own worksheets from web site.
Use "Puzzlemaker" to generate a hedgehog word
search.
Group presentation of finished project.
