Poems

At the Seaside

When I was down beside the sea,

A wooden spade they gave to me,

To dig the sandy shore.

My holes were empty like a cup,

In every hole the sea came up,

Til it could come no more.

The Seagull

The seagull sailed

Out of the summer sky

And skimmed over the boiling sea.

He opened his beak

As a wave went by

And caught a fat fish for his tea.

Sand

Sand in your fingernails

Sand between your toes

Sand in your earholes

Sand up your nose!

Sand in your sandwiches

Sand in your bananas

Sand in your bed at night

Sand in your pyjamas!

Sand in your sandals

Sand in your hair

Sand in your knickers

Sand everywhere!

Sea Talk

I'd like to meet a mermaid.

Yes I really would.

We'd talk of ships and sea shells

And if she understood

She'd hold my hand quite gently

And whisper in my ear.

Though very, very, very softly,

In case the fish should hear.

Sleepy Fish

Down in the sea where the fishes sleep

The water is wet

And the water is deep

And all the little fishes keep

Their eyes wide open while they sleep.

A Baby Sardine

A baby sardine

Saw her first submarine:

She was scared and watched through

a peephole.

"Oh, come, come, come,"

Said the Sardines mum,

"It's only a tin full of people."
