sleepless beauty

I run down the stairs and the fairy tale falls apart
the slipper won’t fit and the kiss doesn’t heal my thorns
so I just scrub the floors harder
trapped in my briar-enclosed castle
where my bed feels oddly uncomfortable
and moonlight turns me into a swan
and my hair isn’t long enough to escape
and the last petal has fallen from the rose
and the fairies can’t do anything to help
and my prince ran away with another girl
leaving my heart to bleed away into this dust.
