Commonly Asked Questions about Simple Machines -This site is a really great resource for answering some of the most basic questions about simple machines.
Leonardo da Vinci's Inventor's Toolbox -Be sure to take a look at the section on gears!
The Essence of Simple Machines -Although this site takes a while to load and requires the Shockwave plug-in, it is well worth the wait. This site goes more into the math of how each simple machine gives us mechanical advantage. While some sections might be too advanced for younger kids, the section on finding all the simple machines in a lawn mover is definitely worthwhile.
Spotlight on Simple Machines -Yet another really nice site that helps explain simple machines.
Simple Machines Scavenger Hunt -There are 18 examples of Levers, Pulleys, & Wheel and Axles in this activity. See if you can find all 6 examples of each. Please be sure to read the instructions before playing. Good luck!
The Official Rube Goldberg Web Site -Who is Rube Goldberg? He was a cartoon writer who had a cartoon called The Inventions of Professor Lucifer Gorgonzola Butts. In his cartoon, the professor would build these really crazy and complicated machines that would do simple tasks. Be sure to check out the gallery to see some of his creative cartoons.
How Stuff Works - This site is one of my all-time favorite sites!! If I want to learn how almost anything works, this is the place that I go to first!
