Bewitching Brownies

 

Ingredients:

1 cup of Vegetable Shortening

4 (1-ounce) squares of Unsweetened Chocolate

2 cups of Sugar

3 tablespoons of Dark Rum

4 Eggs, beaten

1 teaspoon of Vanilla Extract

1 1/2 cups of Flour

1/2 teaspoon of Salt

3/4 cup of chopped Walnuts or Pecans

Preheat oven to 350 degrees. Melt the chocolate and vegetable shortening on top of a double broiler over simmering water. Remove from heat and add the sugar and rum, mixing well. Add eggs and vanilla extract and beat until w ell blended. Stir in the flour and salt, then fold in the chopped nuts. Spread the batter evenly in a well-greased 13x9-x2-inch baking pan. Bake for 25 minutes. Cool completely in pan, frost if desired and enjoy. This recipe yields about 1 1/2 dozen 3x2 in brownie bars.
