The photo on the left was taken at Maui where we visited at the end of Edward's
second grade.
At school, he likes the math. This one was his favorite :

Hello boys and girls, well this has been an exciting week for me. It was my birthday and, of course, Danny, Barney and Gina came over on Saturday to help me celebrate Easter and my birthday.

"How old are you, Aunt Mathilda?" asked Gina.
"Well, let me see." I said. "I will give you some clues. I am between 50 and 60. My age is an even number. I am older than the number of cards in a regular deck of cards. I am 5 years younger than my husband but 8 years older than my sister. The sum of the digits in my age is not a two digit number!" |

After the children figured out my age, Danny asked "When is your real birthday, Aunt Mathilda. I don't think its today, is it?" Of course I had another math challenge ready.
"When do you think?" I asked. "If I were one year older, all the numbers
in my birth date would be the same." (a birth date of Jan. 1, 1995 would
read 1/1/95.)
"O.K." said Barney, after they had figured out my true birthday. "You aren't the only one who has challenges. I have one for you! There are 4 of us here and suppose we each wanted two pieces of cake...."
"Good idea!" said Danny, eyeing the round coconut cake (my favorite!) on the kitchen table. Heading for the knife, he said "When do we eat?"
"Wait, Danny. Here is my challenge for Aunt Mathilda." said Barney. "As I was saying, suppose we each wanted 2 pieces and you wanted to make sure we each had 2 pieces the same size with no cake left over. Could you cut those 8 pieces with 3 straight slices of the knife?"
"Is that possible?" I exclaimed. What do you think? Can you figure it out?
