FATHER'S DAY CAKE CONTEST
We always bake dad a special cake. The Father's Day cake we kept finding on the internet was a pink shirt with tie made in a shirt box. Ties and shirts are not what we think of when we think about our Dad So we decided on a contest for kids and moms who bake their dad a cake. Send us your picture of the cake you bake your dad and the directions. We will choose one as The Best Father's Day Cake, so get creative and make a great cake for your Dad. How about a King of the Castle cake, Baseball Mitt, or even a #1 Father's Day t-shirt. The winner will have their cake posted on this webpage.
2004 WINNER
Deloris Jester
made 8 cakes for her families Father's Day gathering.
A Castle cake, and 7 Crown cakes for each father.

Directions for Castle Cake:
Items needed:
Chocolate Cake mix
Chocolate icing (if store bought 2 jars)
2 Hershey Chocolate bars
Rolo candies
2 toothpicks
rice crispy treats (cut in door shape (oval top/square bottom)
& drawbridge shape (rectangular)
I made Triple Chocolate Cake (from a box). I put the mixture in a 9 x 13 pan. I removed enough to bake 2 regular sized cupcakes & 2 mini-cupcakes. I baked the cake about 30 minutes, the reg. cupcakes I'm not positive but I think about 17 minutes, the mini-cupcakes about 9 minutes or so. Of course, let everything cool. Cut the 9 x 13 cake in half (short way) to make 2 squares. I prefer to freeze my cakes before I ice them so the crumblies don't get all in the icing. Also, if the cake is very rounded on the top, it is best to cut the top off to make it flat (does that make sense?). It is much better to cut the top off when it is frozen & then ice it. Turn one of the squares upside down onto the other square (icing in between). Ice the whole cake with chocolate icing. Place the regular cupcakes on top with a toothpick in the top & then place the mini-cupcakes on top of those toothpicks to help them not move. After they are placed, ice the cupcake towers. Place the rice crispy door & draw-bridge on the front. Decorate the cake with Hershey rectangles sideways (writing on the inside) randomly around the cake to look like old world brick pattern. Stand the rectangles up around the bottom of the regular cupcakes. Put rolo candies on top of the mini-cupcake & around the top perimeter of the whole cake. I think that is about it. I put blue painters tape around the cake to look like the water, but I don't think people caught that. So if you want it to really look like water, you may want to draw a couple of wavy lines on the tape.
The crown cakes were made from a 9 x 13 cake as well. According to how many crowns you want to do, cut the cake into 4 pieces or just in half for 2 crowns. Separate them. Freeze them. Take each out & individually cut the crown shape on top. Some people may want to draw a pattern on cardboard if they want it to be perfect. Mine were definitely not perfect!!!! I iced mine cream colored (I didn't color the frosting) for the sons, chocolate for the big Dad (grandfather) so his would stand out. I then decorated them all with different candies: red hots, skittles, candy stars, sour sugar string things, runts, etc.
