(Raider)
Introduction
Raiding is a big business, carried out only by a few people from a few clans.
My classic impression of a raider is a 3+class Superheros from Hook, Retri, SK, or Baal.
Birth of a raider
To become a serious raider takes very very very long.
(keyword:"serious"(i.e. not a level 16 DoHboy :))
Most would start out with getting some PK experience, then work on a bit of defending,
before experimenting on a few small raids, finally becoming a big raider.
In the meantime, they would also be gaining classes, until at least 3 classes.
Even their role in the raiding team changes: From a jail-sitter or fidoer,
to a maze-marker, to a regenner, and finally to a tank or breather. (Glossary below)
My classic image of a raider is a Level 201 War/Cle/Mage/Thi (often +Psi too) with 20,000+ hp.
Forming a raid team
This is harder than it seems, not just a matter of grabbing a bunch of bored SHes
Ideally, you'd have 1 fidoer, 2 or 3 markers, a regenner, and 2 or 3 tanks, all experienced.
In reality, you'd usually have just 1 or 2 experienced SHes to be tank+breather+regenner,
and another 2 or 3 newbie raiders, and 1 fidoer.
Choosing a target
Contrary to popular belief, there is rarely a fixed target.
Forming a raid group is hard enough, so you want to keep your options open.
Ideally, you'd raid a clan that has lots of eq, very few guards, and no members on.
Practically once again, you'd raid the clan with no SHs, few allies,
and only 1 or 2 blur newbies online.
You can observe a "target" clan to see when their members logon, but it's hardly
worth the effort, in my opinion, since it's so easily ruined by a chance logon.
Testing the target
Optional, but good to do since:
(1)You confirm the clan hasn't moved
(2)You get a vague idea of the clan layout, eg is the first room safe?, etc.
Normally done by anyone, when nobody from the clan is online.
If you're typing "invade", don't do it in full eq, obviously.
The actual raid
This will be covered later, but this is the single most important lesson:
NEVER bring anything you can't afford to lose: Equipment, Experience points, or your Pride.
Glossary
Jail-sitter : one who sits in the jail to mark it as the others scan
Fidoer : one who fidos mana, potions and scrolls to the raiders as needed
Maze-marker : Like the jail-sitter, but now in the maze. Also enters portals to test them out.
Regenner : Level 190+ cleric/ranger who regenerates(5000hp) others as they fight
Tank : Some buff-tuff SH who takes the damage the guards are dealing out
Breather : An SH whose high HP means his gas/devastating breath does a lot of damage.
