This carving of General Lee, General Stonewall Jackson and Confederate President Jefferson Davis on the side of the mountain was begun in the early part of the century but not completed until the 1960s. It is 400 feet above the mountain's base, recessed 42 feet into the mountain and is larger than Mount Rushmore.
