We heard news that a family in Covered Wagon was reliving the cross-country "Oregon Trail Journey", and that they would be stopping in Maxwell for the night. Well we decided to go over and admire them, and their efforts. As we got to talking, they invited us to ride a day with them. I couldn't have been more excited!
At the crack of dawn the next morning mom woke me up. It was so early (make hay while the sun shines you know…) that I was totally confused, and disoriented. Then all of a sudden I remembered "Oregon Trail Day!" We threw our cloths on as fast as we could and blasted out the door (no breakfast, no brushing teeth, not even taking time to go to the bathroom, me that is…). Well we got there just in time, as they had already broke camp, and were preparing to hit the road. The Oxen (Tom and Jerry) were already hitched to the Wagon, and everyone was getting loaded. I climbed up into the Covered Wagon with Mrs. Tucker, and Mom was handed the reins to "Grey Lady", a quarter horse. I was shown the handle to the "Wagon Break" (That was my job), and Mom mounted her trusty steed. And so began our venture into a day in the past…
