Escaflowne The Movie
The sets of characters don't change but there are additional new characters found in the movie. The plot differs from the anime in the series. And the plot is much darker than the series. Van still plays as the prince of Fanelia. His character in the movie stays the same as his usual aggressive but expressionless type of guy. Hitomi's character slightly changes as her point of view in life becomes darker that she does not see a reason to live. And because of that will she is brought to the Mystic Moon by Van's brother, Folken.
As she arrives at the Mystic Moon she becomes confused as the people there refer her as the Goddess of Wings, the one who can bring salvation or destruction to the Mystic Moon. She meets with Van, Allen and Millerna. Allen's role changes here as he is the head of the rogues Abaharaki, survivors from the countries destroyed by the Black Dragon Clan, accompanied by Millerna, she stays as the princess but changes her conservative image into a daring Millerna compared to the anime series. The story revolves on how Folken wishes to destroy the world with the help of Sora, a girl who has the ability to foretell the future. She stays with Folken as she pities his existence and her wish to see and be with him until his end comes. And of course, Escaflowne wouldn't be complete without Dilandau, who is blessed by the power of the dragon like Van only his powers are much weaker compared with Van's pure ancestral blood of Dragons. If you watched the anime series of Escaflowne, you would definitely see a whole lot of familiar faces. The movie is even much darker compared to the anime series, the art and the motion is outstanding and very smoothly coordinated. Escaflowne the series has definitely much more interesting plot and story than the movie, maybe because of its length and character interaction. But nevertheless, Escaflowne is truly one great piece of work
