Venn Diagram of English Catenatives (colour)

  • Easy to read and suitible for English learners
  • This diagram is clickable although the links are almost certainly too complex for English learners.
  • They may be of interest to teachers or people with a general interest in language, however.
  • I intend to simplify them in the future so watch this space.

Venn Diagram of English Catenatives (black & white)

  • Same as above but without colour.
  • For those who want to photocopy in black and white.

The 26 patterns of complementation in English

  • List with examples.

Venn Diagram of English Verb Patterns.

  • Big scary diagram that originally aimed to describe all of the verb patterns in English, it soon grew into a monster.
  • The one good thing about it is that you'll find scrollable lists of verbs followed by
gerunds and infinitives which are more comprehensive than the other diagrams.
  • Take a look if you like, but don't say I didn't warn you.
  • I'm going to put this into table form eventually, so watch this space.
