♪  Lesson 2--Palette & Clothing Tips

Glad to see you're still with me.

Okay. From the last lesson, ou now are supposed to have a base doll cel, a palette, and a blank CNF.

To play with the palette, you must first have a basic CNF.

This is easy to do. Trust me.

First, add the screen dimensions. If you have a small doll, you probably shouldn't make the dimensions too big. Start out with adding:
(600, 480)
at the top. Just like that. You can change it later if it's too big or small.

Leave a space and then put
%blobby.kcf
under it. Like that. Although you don't have to put 'blobby'. Just whatever your palette name was. Then leave a space and put:
#0 basedoll.cel *0: 0 1 2 3 4 5 6 7 8 9
just like that. You can omit 'basedoll' and add whatever your base doll cel name was. So, the CNF should look like:
(600, 480)

%blobby.kcf

#0 basedoll.cel *0: 0 1 2 3 4 5 6 7 8 9
with, of course, the appropriate filenames.

Now, save it. Open it up in PlayFKiSS. If your doll shows up, congrats, you're still with me. If not, you may be missing a few things. Make sure the palette and cel and CNF and all that are all together. Etc.

So, anyway, now the doll is on your screen. Adjust it to where you want it. Right-click on the doll, or click on 'Cel and Object Properties' in the menu and click on the 'Document' tab. Use the arrow keys on the 'Width' and 'Height' to adjust the window size.

When all this is done, go to 'File' 'Save as' and then the 'Save' button. Yes, overwrite your existing file. It's okay. You're just updating it.

Now for those of you who are looking for a palette challenge, go here. Those of you who are happy with your lovely 256 colors (I'm being sarcastic here), continue.

Now that you have all this taken care of, it's time to start the heart of KiSS dolls: the clothing. Clothes come in all sizes and shapes. Duh.

Open up your practice doll (you might want an extra copy to draw the clothes on so you have more room). Start by drawing some sort of clothing. For Blobby, I drew him a sweater.

Now, look at the toolbar. You'll probably end up using a lot of these tools. Go to the Paint's help program and learn about them.

Click on the button with a rectangle--a dotted-line rectangle, that is. Select the area around the article of clothing and go to 'Edit', 'Copy', and then 'File' New' and 'Paste'. Take out all the color around the object.

  

Put the rectangle box around it, following the same rules as when you put a box around your base doll, and save it. I saved this smashing sweater as 'sweater.bmp'. Save this image as a 256 color bitmap. Get the background color you used for the base doll and use this as the background. All backgrounds must be the same color or you'll have some very messed-up cels.
