You come to the shore
of the lake (or loch*). There's a good-sized
ship floating on the water. You call over to it, and no one answers.
You see a row boat nearby, so you row out to it and climb onto the deck.
An auburn-haired young lady dressed in flowing robes with a pointed cap is tied to a pole. A blue, snakelike creature is coiled around the ship and waving its jaws. Then you notice there's another ship on the lake, and an orange squidlike creature has entangled it in its tentacles. That creature is going: "ScccRReeeCHHH! SsssCCCrrrEEEEEcHhH!" "That really is annoying," you say to yourself. "I doubt there is a more annoying noise that any creature can make." Then the blue snakelike creature on your own ship goes: "Skeeraw! Skeeraw!" ". . . . But that comes close," you add. You see the ship's mates are sitting on barrels and playing harmonicas and in general ignoring the commotion. "Aren't you guys going to do anything about this monster?" you ask, gesturing to the giant serpent who has entangled their ship and is menacing the young lady. They look at each other for a moment, then shrug. One of them points to a pair of open barrels. "We're kind of in the middle of our grog time," the salty says. "But maybe you'd like to feed it." |
