FOOTBALL ARRESTS
16:30 - 02 October 2003
Police arrested eight men this morning in connection with violence at a Burton Albion football match.
The swoop came after Hereford United supporters invaded the pitch and the home terraces during their Conference match at Eton Park on September 19.
At half-time, about 30 Hereford supporters ran across the pitch and into the home stand, where fighting broke out.
Officers used video footage and local intelligence in Hereford to plan the operation.
Seven arrests at homes and businesses in the Hereford area were made in connection with violent disorder and suspects were being interviewed at Hereford and Ross-on-Wye police stations today.
A 26-year-old Burton man was also arrested on suspicion of assault and released on bail, pending further inquiries.
