David Beckham put to rest the ghosts of 1998 as England sent Argentina to their first defeat in 19 games in Sapporo on Friday. Beckham's 44th minute penalty, given after Mauricio Pochettino had upended Michael Owen, gained revenge for his sending-off against Argentina in St Etienne that ultimately cost England progress in the 1998 World Cup.
