Journal Writing Guidelines - Overhead

The following is a list of things to keep in mind when writing a journal response.

  1. What did you think about what you read? (Creative use of adjectives).
  2. How did it make you feel?

      Happy...
      Sad...
      Frightened

  3. What did you think about the characters and what they did?
      Were you on their side?
    • Did they act as you would have?

  4. Did the selection remind you of a personal experience?
  5. Did it remind you of anything else you have seen, heard, or read?
  6. What is the author’s main idea?
  7. Did the selection raise any questions for you?

Remember
One or more of the above points may be of particular significance, depending on the selection to which you are responding.
