REVIEW FOR IN-CLASS FINAL
On Wednesday, May 22 you will take a final that will cover material learned in the second semester. There will be three sections:
1. Quotation matching from Romeo and Juliet, A Midsummer Night’s Dream, Great Expectations, A Raisin in the Sun, and To Kill a Mockingbird. You will need to match the quotations with the characters who said them. (50%)
2. Vocabulary matching with the vocabulary from Frankenstein, Animal Farm, the Odyssey, Great Expectations, and To Kill a Mockingbird, plus the Greek and Latin roots. (20%)
3. A five-paragraph essay on one of the topics below. (30%)
The essay will ask you to write about three of the five works you’ve read
this semester:  Romeo and Juliet, A
Midsummer Night’s Dream, Great Expectations, A Raisin in the Sun and To
Kill a Mockingbird.
Your essay question will be one of the following (I will choose). Your essay should have introductory and concluding paragraphs, as well as a topic sentence for each body paragraph. Include specific details from the texts.
1. The above literary works contain many dynamic characters. Select one character from each of three different words (for a total of three characters) and discuss the ways in which the characters change over the course of the stories. You must describe the characters both at the beginning and the end of the works. How are the changes similar and different from one another?
2. Write about the ways in which three of the above works use humor.
3. Write about the importance of setting in three of the above works. How do the time and place influence the plot and characters?
4. All of the above literary works deal in some way with parent/child relationships. In an essay, discuss the way three of the above works depict relationships between parents (literal or symbolic) and children. You should write about both similarities and differences between the three works.
