Planning Guide
1. SAFETY
a) Safety of personnel
b) Safety of materials, building, etc.
2. RELIABILITY
a) Continuity of service required dependent on the cost operation
b) Design to isolate faults without minimum system disturbance.
3. FIRST COST
a) Minimized if the system is reliable.
b) Distribution cost represents only 2% to 10% of plant investment.
4. SIMPLICITY OF OPERATION
a) Avoid complicated and dangerous switching operations under emergency.
b) Obtain by the safe and reliable operation of the plant.
5. VOLTAGE REGULATION
a) Voltage spread maybe the determining factor in the design.
b) Prior regulation is determined by the life and operation of electic equipment.
6. MAINTENANCE
a) Well-designed distribution system with properly closed equipment will reduce emergency maintenance.
7. PLANT EXPANSION
a) Plant loads should generally increase.
b) Consider plant voltages of the equipment and capacity at increased loads.
