mural

A photograph taken in the 1950s shows very little damage
The bottom right corner can now be seen
This photograph was sent to Eliza Brill by a wartime friend of the artist.
It is now made available to us courtesy of John Seccombe

1950's 1961
Mysteries still remain...
the pictures above are taken from the extreme upper left corner of the mural.
On the left, the one from Mrs Brill circa 1950's and the one on the right taken by me in 1961.

The mural was purportedly produced with boot polish by a prisoner of war, using fingers, matchsticks and the like.
We already know that J. Brill was not a prisoner.(see update page.)
We now know that paint was used.(See this page)

Tourists today are still being told the story of prisoner and boot polish. The truth would appear to be that the painting, as we may now refer to it, was produced at the request of the officers of John Brill's regiment. Commissioned, no less, with the paint being purchased in Cairo.
