Commander Shas'o/Shas'el
I can only use one word to describe these guys-WOW. If you don't use these guys, you are not very..uuuummmmmm.. smart. These guys should lead the assault (I do not mean assault literally in terms
of charging into close combat, I mean like .. attack). These guys have great stats, and are in Battlesuits. Not only that, they can also be accompanied by two bodyguards, who are superior in close combat and shooting in comparison to normal Crisis Battlesuits.

Ethereal
This guy stinks in comparison with the Shas'el , which has the same points cost. However, he has a very good ability-Inspiring Presence. Why? Once you find out what it does, you will understand. Oh yes, don't get disappointed with the fact that he doesn't have an armor save. He can take a Shield Drone if he wants to.

Commander O'Shovah (Commander Farsight)
This sick character is DA MAN in close combat, and is the only unit (besides Aun'Shi and Anghkor Prok)
that can actually fight in close combat. And believe me, he rocks! Once again, the best character the Tau has to offer is in a Crisis Battlesuit.

Aun'Shi
This guy, like the other two characters, is a crazy close combat lunatic. Sure, he is not as good as a Bloodthrister or a Wraithlord, but he still can KILL in close combat, one ability Tau really lacks. Has a pretty nifty 4+ invulnerable save and not to mention his Inspirational Presence ability too. Should be used to lead the battle with a Shas'o or Shas'el .

Anghkor Prok
The master Kroot Shaper. Not very good in comparison with the other two, but still great. Inspirational presence sure makes him useful for the Kroot.

Elites

Crisis Battlesuit Team
I've said this many times and I mean it: battlesuits are great! They are all rounder, given the ability to fly around ignoring terrain, with up to three weapons and/or wargear, and are pretty tough to bring down. Take these guys. And I mean take A LOT of them. They are simply great.

Stealth Team
These nifty warriors are pretty good in most cases. They are almost invisible in night fights, and are very hard to see in normal games. Their wonderful Burst Cannons are great at killing infantry, and that's what you are supposed to do. Throw them in front of your enemy infantry at 18" away and start killing. Don't worry about being in front of their face, because they most likely wont be able to see you anyway.

Troops

Fire Warriors
Cheap heavy firepower. These small guys SUCK in close combat, but kick ass in ranged attacks. Their Pulse Rifles are even more powerful than the mighty Space Marine Bolters, unarguably one of the most powerful basic weapons any basic trooper could have. Use these guys like a wall, a very shooty wall.

Kroot Carnivores
The Kroot are divided in to three parts: the Carnivores, the Kroot Hounds, and the Krootoxes. All of them are pretty good at close combat, and that's what they are there for. They aren't slouches at shooting either, armed with Kroot Rifles and Kroot Guns (except for the Hounds). Kroot Hounds increase your close combat skill, and Krootoxes are powerful weapon platforms and big fatties rolled into one. Their ability to infiltrate and eat the dead are pretty cool and very useful.

Fast Attack

Pathfinders
Pathfinders are perhaps one of the most useful units in the Tau army. Their ability to pin and mark units is invaluable. Use them primarily as scouts, pinning the enemy down with their Pulse Carbines, and marking units for the Seeker Missles, which its Devilfish is bound to have. And yes, they come with a Devilfish APC, which is compulsory.

Gun Drones
At first glance, these guys stink. But consider their ability to breakup into many smaller units of 3-4 drones, because they are independent after all, and start pinning. Their speed helps them to do that faster, as those few extra turns of freedom from infantry fire can prove invaluable.

Heavy Support

Broadside Battlesuit Team
Take a Crisis Battlesuit, give it a better save, and slap on the greatest weapon ever created, the Railgun (two, actually, since they are twin-linked), give it some missles and this is the result. The ultimate blend of maneuverability and firepower. Use them to destroy heavier units.

Hammerhead Gunship
The ultimate tank, besides the Land Raider and the Leman Russ. It can be armed with two of the most powerful weapons available to the Tau, the Railgun and the Ion Cannon. Don't forget the Burst cannons or the missle racks. This tank is so powerful, even a Land Raider's armor is a joke.

Well, that pretty much covers every Tau unit. More next time. Until then, adios amigos!
