In
the pipeline are a series of Codex Books based around the Inquisition.
The first of these, Codex Daemonhunters, will cover the Ordo Malleus,
Grey Knights, Inquisitional Henchmen and possibly Culexes Assassins. Daemonhunters
is likely to be released alongside the Chaos Codex revision. At some point Chapter Approved will cover an update to Heroes of the Imperium. ***Codex Eye of Terror is due to be released for summer 2003 and will include Cadians, and what Andy referred to as "the hordes of Chaos" - cultists, mutants, beastmen, spawn etc.*** ***If I understood what Andy DIDN'T say, as much as he did, there will be a new "more whacky" Chaos tank. Your guess is as good as mine!*** (Yee-haw!) ***The 'Summer of Chaos' (summer 2002) will mainly focus on fantasy, although the new daemons are cross-range.*** (D'oh!) ***There will be a 40k campaign summer 2003 on the 13th Crusade of Abaddon.*** Index
Astartes compilations is due to be released at the rate of 1 a year. When
asked if they will work alongside the Codex Chaos revisions, Andy replied
that he hopes so! The later compilations will work as the Codex will Following the Index Astartes First Founding series, Index Astartes will cover the Cursed Foundings such as Legion of the Damned and Flame Falcons. These will enable you to form a generic Cursed Founding Legion and will not be restricted rulesets to just Legion of the Damned. Codex
Imperial Guard is due for revision in line after Chaos and Eldar. Andy
is looking to revisit the infantry and include options for differing levels
of experience, accounting for raw recruits, hardened veterans and others
in Tanith First and Only are due for a May release, designed by the Perry twins. There will be a boxed set of command models, as well as supporting blisters. Plastic Cadians WILL be released, either to accompany Codex Eye of Terror of the revision of Codex Imperial Guard. Codex Necrons is due for release in June 2002 alongside White Dwarf 271. The two C'tan in the Codex will NOT require opponent's consent to use. Andy is hoping to revisit the other two C'tan in the future. Codex
Eldar is due for revision after Codex Chaos and is likely to include Harlequins.
The plastic Wave Serpent will be released alongside the Codex. Wraithlords
will NOT be reduced in Toughness. More likely is an increase in Tau will get more flyers from FW - mainly flyers as the studio is not keen on large Tau tanks or walkers. Tau VDR will be included in a forthcoming WD and will include some restrictions, eg. no close combat weapons on Tau walkers. Tau are unlikely to get any more new races as allies, but may see allies from existing races. There are unlikely to be any new alien races for the foreseeable future, although Andy is keen to expand that aspect. After the review of the Assault rules, there will be a re examination of the vehicle rules, both updates to be published in long distant White Dwarfs. Andy commented that when the rules were written, the games development team had not considered the 'Rhino-mounted marine army of death' or similar - a tactic considered essential to winning tournaments! At the time the team were pleased that vehicles were no longer steel coffins for any transported troops - apparently not envisaging the extremes that the rules can be pushed to! It is likely that this will be a key revision. The rules are also likely to be less restrictive on moving and firing, as well as re-examining walker rules to ensure they are less vulnerable. As with the assault rules, these will not invalidate existing Codex books. 4th
edition will be released in 2004 at the earliest, but will mainly be a
redefinition and tweak of existing rules. |
