Special Interest's and Blinder's: The Problem With New Mexico's US Senators
Chimayo and northern New Mexico has openly and publicly had it's escalating heroin and cocaine problem for many decades, and not just the few years as some officials and politicians would like to otherwise pretend. The growing problem with heroin and cocaine, and the crime of all types that these horror drugs have created, is in large part a method in which the "patron's" of the area, exert their influence and control over the people.

There is little industry in northern New Mexico except for what the US and State Government creates, and the tourists bring into the area. For many decades most of the area economy [outside of government jobs] has been based on what the land could provide, but efforts of radically "conservative" environmental concerns is slowly changing the perspective on the use of public lands. There are no large box and print shops where we live, no big printing facilities, no major technology or chip makers within 85 miles, and no major effort to bring any of these types of industries into the area. With Albuquerque so close you would think that the northern New Mexico area around Espanola would be attracting "support" based businesses and jobs for the Albuquerque industrial complex, but there is no such support base in our area of any great importance. Most of what the area still does economically, is based on what little the land still does provide and the proud attitude of the people that goes with that way of life.

Change is hard, but losing a way of life is even harder, especially if you are one of those being effected by the changes. This is why bringing jobs and other economic positions and opportunities into the area, which are not dead-end, is important in bringing about a positive change that does not prey on the dispair and hopeless feeling of those that get caught up in the changes. As the job market continues to change and less high paying live-off-the-land jobs are available, the masses of local people who have been working those jobs, more and more, are left out of the lucrative job paying market, and forced into a dead-end job market that pays less than a fair wage. People caught up in that scenario, become easy prey for the false high World of illusion which heroin and cocaine creates, and a world in which these individuals can be easily manipulated and preyed upon. Escape from this world is difficult at best.

So what does any of this have to do with the State of New Mexico's two elected at large United States Senators, Pete Domenici(R) and Jeff Bingaman(D)? Plenty!

For as long as both of these US Senator's have been in office, the problem of heroin and cocaine has been in Chimayo and northern New Mexico, and the problem has been growing. Not only has the problem with hard drugs been growing, but so has the problem with good paying jobs being replaced by low paying dead-end jobs.

If these two US Senators had been paying more attention to the General Welfare of the masses of people in northern New Mexico, and less to the General Welfare of their "special interest" friends, for which both of the US Senators appear to be working, then there would probably be less heroin and cocaine destroying our communities and families, and probably good paying jobs brought into the area to replace the one's that the area is losing.

It is inexcusable that both NM US Senators, Pete Domenici(R) and Jeff Bingaman(D), ignored the heroin and cocaine problem in Chimayo and northern New Mexico for as long as they did [The problem has a long and lengthy history with no end in sight]. It may not be a good thing to have a major heroin and cocaine problem in your political backyard, but it is quite another to have ignored and white-washed that problem for as long as both US Senators appear to have done.

When good jobs stated leaving the area, the two NM US Senators should have been eagerly working to bring new businesses and industries into the area. Instead the two US Senators chose to serve the special interests who favored low paying wages in the area, and other special interests who needed special funding monies for their own pork barrel political projects. One such pork barrel project is a Federally Funded replica of an Early Catholic Spanish Mission complete with a Christian Cross on top of it, in Espanola, New Mexico. Espanola City fathers have dubbed the building "The Mission Convento," a Mini-Mini-City Convention Center, in an attempt to make it legal under the US Constitution. The fact remains that there is a Christian Cross on top of the building, and there have been Catholic weddings performed in the building. The Mission Convento was built with Federal Funds [Taxpayer Dollars] sponspored by US Senator Pete Domenici(R). Many of us in America are under the assumption it is against the Supreme Law of the Land [The US Constitution], to use Federal money for the purpose of building a replica of a Church with a Christian Cross on top of it!

The Federal Funds given to the City of Espanola for it's Industrial Park was an excellent idea. The only problem is, is that the Industrial Park has taken forever to complete, and is a loosely built project that appears to have had a lot of financial "skim" taken off the top! This will probably be the next set of financial records [as to where the Federal Funds went] in northern New Mexico to disappear. Records in this part of the country have a strange way of never existing or disappearing, and no one seems to ever question why. Really amazing!

This is not an attitude that best serves the General Welfare, and best interest's of the masses of people in New Mexico; rather it is an attitude that best serves the priorities of the special interests!

But this is not the first time that New Mexico's United States Senators have ignored the voice of the people. At the Espanola, New Mexico, March 30, 1999, "official" Congressional Hearing on heroin, cocaine, and the problem with these hard drugs in Chimayo and elsewhere in northern New Mexico, several area voices, including my own, were "unconstitutionally" silenced when US Senator Pete Domenici(R) REFUSED to allow any public testimony to be given, except for what the US Senator and the Congressional panel had previously selected as "safe testimony" to go on the public record. US Senator Jeff Bingaman(D) still refuses to answer a 95 page First Amendment Redress of Grievances that was given to him to officially respond to. Fact's clearly presented here, show that neither US Senator, Domenici or Bingaman, cares about the common voice of the people, or what they have to say. Is this what you expect out of your elected Representive in the way of listening to your voice? If it is, then you may be living in the wrong country, and under the wrong constitution and flag! This is supposed to be a government built on the voice of each and every individual that makes up We the People, and not just on the voice of the select few as it currently is.

It is clear from the way that they act, that neither United States Senator from New Mexico, Pete Domenici or Jeff Bingaman, is willing to act in a manner that is responsive to the voice and will of the people. US Senators Domenici and Bingaman apparently feel that the only accountability that they owe to the people of New Mexico, is lying to and deceiving them, because so far that is all that both continue to do to the masses of people in New Mexico and the rest of the United States. The people that are benefiting the greatest from these two US Senators, continues to be the select few who are getting the political gravy and skim off. The rest of us have to settle for failed Federal Drug Operations, and communities and lives put into continued torment, risk, and terror, because the Federal funds for fighting an effective War on Drugs, and fighting that war to a positive conclusion, has gone elsewhere. [Mostly into rat-hole porkbarrel political projects like the Convento Center in Espanola, New Mexico]

New Mexico US Senators Domenici and Bingaman, have been playing the "good old boy" game at the expense of every individual in New Mexico. All the while, the crime, drug, and corruption problem has continued to thrive and grow in places like Chimayo, New Mexico.
