A nice light read, I suppose. It was supposed to be all gritty and underworld and full of shockingness, but I didn't feel that shocked. Like this was an underground novel trying to be mainstream or vice versa. It ended up being neither, and quite forgettable, but I remember liking it at the time, and I guess that's what matters.

I very nearly didn't read this book at all just because it takes place in New York City, and pretty much every book that takes place there (and television show and movie) centers on the belief that there is no universe outside of New York City. That rather annoys me. This book was just the same, ignorant of the rest of the world. New Jersey might just as well be the moon. I hate that. Fortunately though, for me, and for this book, there was no mention of that bastion of all that is evil and profane, the Yankees.
