I think I came across this book last spring/summer when I was cruising around the library's online catalog for nonfiction books to read for my summer nonfiction project. I came across this and thought it looked good but since it was fiction I couldn't read it till after summer. So I added it to my "List" at the library's website and forgot about it. Then I remembered it, put a hold on it, and picked it up at WBL. Fascinating, I know. Try to contain yourself. It's disgusting, is what it is.

Nice stories. I'm ashamed that I don't know more about Bosnia/Serbia/Croatia. When I tried to read about the whole situation on Wikipedia my head started to hurt, it is such a complicated mess. Political things usually are, especially when they erupt into war. But that didn't matter so much as far as enjoying this book was concerned. Poignant.

I've said before I'm not a big fan, in general, of short story collections. That still holds. But this was good. I especially liked the "Snow Powder" story. What kid who was tormented by his classmates hasn't fantasized about blowing up his school?
