Some things are just too complicated to be understood. I was hoping that this would be a good introduction to the politics and economics and social implications of oil, but it was not. I don't understand politics, nor economics, nor society, and I would have to have a good handle on those weighty subjects before I could begin to learn about oil.
It's like the Irish War of Independence. I read both 1916 and 1921 by Morgan Llewelyn but still don't feel like I'm any closer to understanding that period of Ireland history. There's just too much data. Factions, motives, loyalties, names, contexts. It bogs me down, and I just want to give up. Same here with Oil. I'll never understand it all to my satisfaction. So why bother?
Okay enough as books go, I suppose. It wasn't the fault of the book itself. It was just the knowledge that 90% of an iceberg lies below the surface of the water.
