Not sure which branch of the library this book came from, but I put a request on it and picked it up at White Bear Lake.
Although the above image says the subtitle of this was "One Man's Mission to Fight Terrorism and Build Nations -- One School at a Time", the copy of it I read was paperback, and the prologue or epiloge (I can't remember which) clearly stated that for the paperback edition it was to have the subtitle "One Man's Mission to Promote Peace -- One School at a Time." Obviously, the image above is taken from the library's website and they don't distinguish between the two cover images for their online catalog. Sloppy, sloppy, sloppy.
Only an idiot perfectionist like me would notice something like that. If I was also a pendejo, as my Puerto Rican coworker is, I would point it out to the library and demand that it be fixed immediately.
When I was about to start the non-fiction summer project, I e-mailed my friend A. who lives in Grand Marais and asked her for suggestions. She reads a lot. She gave me about ten or fifteen good suggestions, and I put requests on those that the library had that sounded like bullseyes. This definitely was one.
I highly recommend it. I worry though, that Oprah will get her filthy hands on it and make us all sick of Greg Mortenson if she has her way, which she always does.
I hardly ever do this anymore, but Three Cups Of Tea. I'd like to say that this book inspired me, but I have a tremendous momentum of laziness built up. What the man is doing is wonderful, I hope he continues to do such wonderful work. But I think what separates him from me fundamentally is that deep down I believe people suck all over. He doesn't, and that's awesome, and I wish him all the best in all he does.
