Friday, December 26th, 2008I was really expecting it to be a lot busier this week than it has been. I understand people going out of town for Christmas vacation, that sort of thing. But I didn't expect the place to be half empty all the time. What will it be like next week? Or the first week of January when everything is back to normal? I didn't work today, so I was able to go in the morning. Obviously, they were closed yesterday so that knocked me off my regular Tuesday/Thursday donation schedule. So I'm back onto Tuesday/Friday until I can take a week off of it. It was good to donate during the day, because I was able to listen to Radio K, my favorite station. They go off the air (Amplitude Modulation) at sunset, which is 4:30 this month. I don't usually get hooked up to a plasma machine until about that time, so I don't have Radio K to listen to. Basically I'm left with Minnesota Public Radio news (91.1) or classical (99.5). Usually I read. It depends on how close I am to one of the overhead radio speakers, and how loud it is. It's always on some awful commercial station, either Jack 104 or Cities 97 or KS95. If I'm far enough away that I can ignore it, I read. If I'm too close, I listen to my radio, anything, just to drown it out. It was good today to have Radio K to drown it out. When I first went in the song playing on the overhead (Jack 104, I think) was "Dream On" by Aerosmith. I have a no-Aerosmith policy. If Aerosmith is playing anywhere, I must leave that place. Or do whatever I can to make it stop. So thank God for Radio K today. Usually I get there when it's light and leave when it's dark. Today I got there when it was dark and left when it was light. Next week will be the same. So that's a fun change. --- Last night I had my share of Christmas Cheer. A couple servings of aquavit (Linie, of course), and a beer. I didn't get drunk, but I felt okay when I went to bed. I did not feel okay when I got up at six, but when I got moving around I felt better. I was worried that the alcohol content in my blood when I went to do plasma would disqualify me from donating today. But I passed the screening just fine. So that was a huge relief. --- Back to Plasma Experiment 2008 Back to Index |
