Monday, May 29th, 20064:00 A.M.Same route as what I ran Saturnday. I had intended, when I got to Cedar Avenue at Oak Terrace, to cut over a block to Jay Lane and take that up to where it meets into Birch and resume the normal route. But at that intersection (Cedar/Oak), the newspaper delivery guy was nowhere to be seen, so I just kept straight on Oak, up to where it turns left and becomes Birch. As it just so happened, the only car I met on the jog was there on that stretch of Oak that would have been avoided if I had cut over to Jay. But it was driving and so was gone in only a few seconds. Newspaper delivery cars are the worst, with their idling headlights. I wore shorts. It was the first time I had worn shorts outside of the house in three years. Or four. Not sure. No matter. Eight miles in three days. I'm getting there. Next weekend I move up to five miles. I haven't decided if I'll just stop at five or keep increasing the distance. The ultimate goal really is seven, for the Bix race in Davenport in late July. But if I just keep at five and get comfortable with that, I can do seven once for the Bix. But we'll see. ![]() Back to Running |
