Tuesday, August 15th, 20064:44 A.M.1+ milesI went for a long slow walk of about three and a half miles on Sunday, July 23rd. That was all well and good, but then by Monday I was sore in my legs and ankles from that long of a walk, which is puzzling. It was a very slow relaxed meander and I wouldn't have thought I could have done any damage to myself by it. But somehow I did, and it kept me out of running for well over a fortnight. I was going to run again on Saturnday, August 5th, my legs were feeling okay, but I was sick with allergies and didn't hardly get any sleep that night before. Then on the 8th and 10th I didn't want to try running again on a weekday after having not run in so long. On Saturnday, August 12th my leg hurt again, inexplicably. So I took my chances and just ran a mile on the 15th, a Tuesday. It went well, as far as running goes. Darker at five a.m. now than it was at that time a few weeks ago. But paperboys' cars' headlights drove me insane. Plus houses with very bright yardlights on, spoiling otherwise nice dark streets. It's frustrating. I like the dark. If I could stand the light I would run in the afternoons. People ruin everything, even when they're still in bed at five in the morning. At the spot marked "A" on the map, I encounted the first paperboy, moving west on the street as I was traveling east. An annoyance. By the time I got to Hazel and Birch and saw another paperboy coming towards me, at "B," it was too much for me to bear and so I detoured up to Van Dyke Street. Then on the home stretch, a third encounter loomed at "C" and so I detoured again, up to Randy this time. I'm pretty sure the A and C paperboys were the selfsame paperboy moving up the street. But whatever. On the bright side, the run itself was good. No soreness. Up with metabolism. Perfect weather, actually, temperature in the 55° F ballpark. ![]() Back to Running |
