Climate Change: the science, causes & consequences (a.m.)
This morning session will provide the public with a basic scientific
understanding of the issue while sensitizing them to the often unseen impacts
and consequences of our actions on our climate.
Economic, Political and Industrial Barriers (a.m.)
Of late, the arguments against the need for fossil fuel reduction have
shifted from uncertain science to economic unfeasibility. In this second
panel discussion we will address the following questions:
• Is there an economically feasible
solution to the problem of climate change?
• Can we kick the fossil fuel habit?
• Who should act first? How
to curve public apathy and accelerate the political process.
• How to fight climate change in
a world preoccupied with war?
Vegan Lunch Provided
What can I do? Tales of inspiration by fellow Montrealers. (p.m.)
This session will seek to inspire and incite the public to take action
on climate change. We will re-launch “The Bet” campaign which challenges
citizens to surpass government efforts in terms of reducing their greenhouse
gas emissions.
Workshops (p.m.)
A variety of smaller interactive workshops will provide the public
with a concrete set of tools, skills and local resources to assist them
in lightening their footprints on the earth.
Topics covered will include:
- energy efficiency in the home and business
- alternative transportation
- urban agriculture
- bike maintainance
- vegetarianism
- ethical investments
Keynote Speaker (p.m.)
This final session will recapitulate the themes addressed throughout
the day, offer a vision for future action and provide a forum for concluding
questions and remarks.
