Raiders 2003 Mock Draft
by Edweirdo
Top Needs (in order)
- DE
- CB/S
- RB
- WR
- LB
Strategy
- DE is top priority with our injuries and lack of
playmakers
- We need depth in the secondary. There are a number of athletes
with size and speed that should be available in rounds 2 or 3, so
we don't need to burn a 1st round pick on Polamalu even if he's
available. The guys I list in my mock are all CBs who have the size
to play S
- We shouldn't package BOTH 1st rounders to move up. We wouldn't
get very far, maybe to late teens at best
- No need to waste a 1st rounder on C. We have Treu and could
find a decent C in middle rounds
- Forget McGahee in the 1st round. If anyone forgot how bad that
knee injury is, I'll send you a link and you can watch the hit
again. Aaayyiieee! We need value with our first rounders not a
gamble
- Most seem content with our RB by committee. But I think we need
more speed at RB, esp if Garner goes down. If the NFL in recent
years, so many RBs have been out or hobbled by injury
Picks by Round
- 1a. DE: White/Redding. Or Kelsay/Haynes if they slip
into late 20s, via packaging this pick with 3rd rounder (similar to
what we did for Buchanon last year)
- 1b. trade down: The Raiders can gain an additional 3rd
rounder by moving down from #32.
- 2a. RB: Suggs/Fargas (pick acquired from
trade)
- 2b. WR: Calico
- 3a. CB/S: Weathersby(6-1 204 4.40)/Battle(6-2 205
4.43)/Asomugha(6-2 213 4.46) (pick acquired from trade).
Battle and Weathersby will almost definitely be gone, but Asomugha
may still be on the board
- 3b. C: Miami's Romberg (if didn't trade up in the 1st
round with this pick).
- 4. LB: Tinoisamoa
- 5-7: O-line, D-line depth. LB Sam Williams (6-5,
235, 4.6) if we didn't get Tinoisamoa.
