STRUCTURE OF THE Global Evangelical CHURCH

The organizational structure of EPCOG is very similar to that of the Presbyterian Church in America. (PCA). There is only a slight difference between their SESSION and our DISTRICT. The Local Congregation is the nucleus of our church structure. The governing body is the local session, made up of ruling and teaching elders. Their number depends on the size of the congregation. Two or more congregations in the same geographical area are put together under one or more pastors to form a District. The district is also made up of representatives from the congregations within it. Sometimes a fairly large congregation can decide to have a Pastor to herself and such a congregation is known as Parish.

All districts in the same zone are put together to form a Presbytery. A presbytery has a chairman, a clerk and two ruling elders to serve on the Synod Committee. Presently we have eight Presbyteries in Ghana and a newly created Presbytery in the Republic of Togo, a neighboring country.

The Synod Committee is made up of Moderator, who is the Chairman, the Synod Clerk and the PICRS. The rest are the three representatives from each presbytery, the treasurer, two ruling elders elected at Synod, Synod Advisory Committee, Legal Advisors, Chairman of HBC and three others representing, Catechists, Evangelists and other active groups serving in the church. They meet four times a year.

The Synod is the Supreme Court of the church. The decisions of the synod in spiritual matters are final.

They meet once a year to deliberate on affairs of the church. Membership include all Synod Committee members mentioned earlier on, all Pastors in active service and not more than four representatives from each District in addition to church agents heading Schools, Colleges, Hospitals and other institutions of the church.  Specially invited guest are also invited to attend Synod.
