Alexia grew up near Washington D.C. on Earth and watched all her brothers enter starfleet like their father. Having grown up the youngest of five she was the only one who did not want to follow in her parents footsteps. Instead she got married right out of school to Peter Slater. The couple had no children. Her husband died three weeks after their marriage leaving everything to her. Alexia was very saddened by the death of her husband. Unknowing to her, Alexia's husband had been very wealthy and so Alexia inherited it all. After paying off her parents debts she decided to settle somewhere and live without a care.
Everyone thinks she is responsible for her husbands death though she is not. Her husbands sister is resentful that Alexia got everything and Samantha was left with just Peter and her parent's house like she was when their parents died. Alexia susects her sister-in-law of foul play.
