Garion meets Zakath. A Dalasian healer realises that Ce'Nedra's illness arises from the fact that Zandramas has a hold on her mind. Garion is forced to reveal to Zakath that Urgit is not the son of Taur Urgas

Brador tells Garion and Belgarath that a man named Mengha is raising armies of demons. Belgarath goes to tell Zakath but the emporer collapses. Sadi reports that he has been poisoned by a poison with no antidote. Cyradis asks if Polgara has applied the universal remedy. This turns out to be Adara's Rose, which heals through it's fragrance

Zakath begins to recover but feigns fatigue whenever Garion mentions returning to Mallorea. Liselle reveals that Naradas was behind the poisoning. Garion loses his temper and destroys a wall. Belgarath explains the prophecies to Zakath

Cyradis reveals the truth of Belgaraths words to Zakath. Zakath agrees to go back to Mal Zeth. Durnik and Toth resolve their differences. The party arrive at Mal Zeth

The party reaches the Imperial Palace. Silk, Liselle and Sadi offer to collect information

Garion and his companions are announced as surprise visitors at Zakath's formal dinner. The next day Belgarath suggests that Mengha may have raised a demon lord. Zakath decides to bring his troops back and tells Garion that he can't leave until the troops return

Silk and Garion go to Silk's office to get information. Garion has the disturbing idea that Mengha is recruiting other Grolims abd is told that Mengha's demon is called Nahaz. Sadi, Silk and Liselle cause uproar in the Imperial Palace

Polgara and Belgarath instruct Velvet to cause some sort of disruption. Garion warns Zakath that he is making the same mistakes as Urgit. Zakath refuses to let Garion leave. Later, acting on Polgara's advice, Garion seduces Ce'Nedra

Yarblek and Vella arrive with a juggler named Feldegast in tow. Yarblek tells that he has heard some unsavoury things about demons breeding with humans. Garion tells Silk, Liselle and Sadi that he needs that distraction now so that they can leave

A sailor brings plague to Mal Zeth. Zakath seals up the palace and Polgara tells him he must seal up the city or the plague with destroy the entire empire

Trapped in the city with Silk's diversion well under way, Belgarath is forced to lead the party out by a secret passage known to Feldegast without Zakath's knowledge. Part of the passage is collapsed and they are forced to travel up through the city. Ce'Nedra sees a baby and tries to save it but Vella stops her. Garion feels bad about deserting Zakath

The party head for Ashaba. Vella dances for the group. Garion and his companions leave Yarblek and Vella, but Feldegast accompanies them. A traveller tells them the Grolims are going mad in Venna

The party move into Venna. Garion adopts a knights garb to attack any Temple Guardsman they should encounter, which he does. They arrive at Mal Yaska and realise that Urvon and Mengha seem to be allied

Garion and his companions fight guardsmen and cross the border into Kakator. Garion uses the Orb to frighten away a demon. The suspiscion that Urvon and Mengha are working together is confirmed

The party head toward Ashaba. Sadi uses one of his powders to dissuade the Hounds from bothering them. They creep into the house under cover of nightfall

Belgarath is infuriated to find that Zandramas has destroyed the Ashabine Oracles. Garion, Silk and Feldegast spy on the throne room and discover that Urvon believes he is the new God of Angarak, and that Mengha is actually Harakan

Zandramas appears and compels Garion to reveal himself. Garion and his friends fight the amassed forces. Liselle uses Zith to kill Harakan and reveals herself to be Hunter. Feldegast is revealed to be Beldin but he is prevented from killing Urvon by the demon lord Nahaz who spirits the madman away

Polgara realises that Zandramas had placed a possession on Garion's mind. Toth summons Cyradis who tells them they have nine months to reach the Place Which Is No More, and that it was Torak,and not Zandramas who mutilated the Oracles. The party decide to stay the night at Ashaba

Beldin creates the image of a demon to detract attention from the party's departure. The Orb leads Garion along Geran's trail. They stumble across a temple where a woman is is labour with a demon's baby. Polgara goes into the temple to prevent the birth

The party reach Lake Karanda. They see a magician promising to raise Nahaz and Belgarath realises that he must be attempting an illusion. They realise that the Grolim must have seen the real Nahaz. Belgarath denounces his illusion and creates an illusion of the Kingof Hell. Garion stops the Grolim from escaping

The Grolim reveals that it was he who taught Mengha how to raise demons and that Zandramas landed somewhere near Karand. They land their boat and Polgara curses the Grolim, granting him invincibility with the provisothat he would never be believed

Garion and Silk search for Zandramas trail in Karand. They discover she has been recruiting Grolims to her cause. Beldin returns. Zandramas tries to set a trap for them but Cyradis circumvents it. Zandramas tries to kill Ce'Nedra but Poledra appears and stops her before just as suddenly leaving again
