Garion

The son of Geran and Ildera but orphaned as a baby, Garion was brought up by his Aunt Pol on Faldor's Farm in the district of Erat in Sendaria. His earliest memories were of playing in Faldor's kitchen, which was run by Pol, and growing up as any normal farm boy should. This all changed however when he was fourteen years old and he and his aunt, led by the old storyteller, Wolf, left the farm in search of some object which had been stolen. During the quest for this object, which later turned out to be the Orb of Aldur, Garion found out that his Aunt Pol was actually the sorceress Polgara and the old storyteller was Belgarath. After the Orb had been recovered and returned safely to Riva Garion was revealed to be Belgarion, heir to the Rivan throne and Keeper of the Orb.

Upon discovering who he was Garion was then faced with a frightening truth - that he was destined to take up Riva Iron Grips sword and go to fight the God Torak in a battle to the death. Not wanting to cause a lot of unnecessary suffering and death, and knowing that the only battle which really mattered would be between himself and Torak he slipped away in the night with Belgarath and Silk in an attempt to avoid a pointless war. He confronted Torak at the ruins of Cthol Mishrak and emerged victorious.

Garion was married to the Imperial Tolnedran Princess Ce'Nedra whom he met during the quest for the Orb after she joined the party just outside Tol Honeth, in accordance with the terms of the Accords of Vo Mimbre. Their eldest child, Prince Geran, was stolen by the sorceress Zandramas who intended to raise him as the new God of Angarak should the dark prophecy prevail. Garion and his companions pursued her across the world in an attempt to prevent this. However, the matter was finally resolved by the seer Cyradis who chose against Zandramas, and Geran was returned to his parents. On their return to Riva Garion and Ce'Nedra had their second child, a daughter called Beldaran.

Distantly related to both Belgarath and Polgara on his father's side, it is not surprising that Garion was quite a powerful sorceror. He is also half Algar, a heritage he received from his mother and has an Algar cousin named Adara.
