The party leave the caves of Prolgu and enter Arendia. That night they are attacked by something posing as the dragon but Garon defeats it and it makes a hasty exit

Garion and his companions arrive at the Arendish Fair. They discover that they are being followed by a Mallorean named Naradas. Beldin arrives and, while attempting to deceive the Mallorean, realises that he is a Grolim

The party arrive at Tol Honeth. They discover that Naradas was behind the Vordue sucession. Liselle arrives with the news that Bethra has been murdered by the Honeths. Belgarath finds a reference in the prophecies of the Western Grolims to looking for the Child of Dark in the land of the serpents

The Honeths begin to die mysteriously. Garion and Ce'Nedra attend a ball at the Imperial Palace. Liselle, or Velvet as she is more commonly known, joins Garion and the party is forced to make a quick departure when Silk is almost caught while assassinating Honeths

Velvet leads the party to a secret way out of Tol Honeth. They stop at the Wood of the Dryads. One of the dryads tells that she saw a Nyissan ship land and Garion finds Zandramas' trail

The Orb leads Garion along Geran's trail. Sadi offers Garion information about Zandramas, in return for safe passage out of Nyissa. Belgarath reluctantly agrees

Sadi tells the party that Zandramas is going to Verkat but he knows a way in which they can gain some distance on her. He also tells them that Naradas is working for Zandramas. Polgara and Garion go to visit Salmissra who reveals she know nothing of the order to provide a Nyissan ship for Zandramas. She also tells Polgara and Garion that Zandramas is a woman, and that she was the dragon who had attacked them in Arendia

The party travel through Nyissa, collecting the necessary garb to be disguised as slave traders, and enter Cthol Murgos. Garion and Silk watch a Murgo patrol ambush a Mallorean patrol but are then captured by the Dagashi

The Dagashi take them Kahsha, where Jaharb gives them the task of escorting a Dagashi from Rak Urga to Rak Hagga. The party travels to Rak Urga

The party enter the Temple Of Torak where they are taken to see Chabat. Belgarath and Garion find a prophecy that seems to suggest Garion's son is to be used as a sacrifice. Eriond puts out the fires in the Sanctury

Chabat accuses Eriond of using sorcery to put out the fires but Agachak dismisses this. Sorchak is bitten by Zith. Agachak reveals he knew of Chabats attempts to raise a demon. King Urgit arrives and suggests that he takes the "slavers" to the palace for their safety. As they leave he reveals that he recognises Sadi

Urgit reveals that it was because of taur Urgas that Zakath killed the girl he loved. The Lady Tamazin recognises Silk

On the verge of losing almost all his kingdom, Urgit follows Garions advice and stands up to his generals. Oskatat recognises Silk

Most of the party are identified. Velvet realises that Urgit is Silk's half-brother. Belgarath decides to take Urgit with them and Prale insists on accompanying them

The party go to leave. The Dagashi, Kabach, turns out to be Harakan and he denounces Garion. Garion is forced to fight him and he flees. Agachak chases him. Chabat raises a demon to fight Polgara but she loses control of it. Polgara, with Aldur's help, is forced to send Chabat back to the demon realm, along with the demon she summoned

Silk and Urgit discuss their respective childhoods and then get drunk together. Garion explains to Urgit where he is going wrong as king

In an attempt to outrun a group of Mallorean ships, the ship crashes into a reef. Durnik, Garion and Belgarath attempt to beach it but it hits a submerged rock

The party is forced to abandon ship. The Murgo sailors try to steal their horses but Polgara uses shades of Barak, Hettar and Mandorallen to dissuade them

Garion retrieves what he can from the shipwreck and the party set off. Urgit realises that Zakath is about to slaughter his army and he and Prala go to salvage the situation. The party stop at a farmstead which was looted by Malloreans

Garion overhears a group of Mallorean deserters who have been ransacking farmsteads. He kills them all. The party enter the forest, where they are ambushed, ineffectively, by a group of Murgos

sadi discovers from the Grolim leading the ambushers that they were sent by Agachak. The Raveners begin to chase the party and Polgara, Garion, Belgarath and Durnik are forced to raise a shield. Eventually they reach the sea, where a ship is waiting to take them to Verkat

Garion finds Garan's trail on the island and finds out he is only a week behind Zandramas. Garion and Silk overhear cyradis telling the Dals they must show Belgarath the Book of Ages

Vard comes to warn Belgarath that Malloreans are coming. The party escape into the woods. An insane hermit tries to halt their passage but Polgara deals with him

The party hide in a bramble thicket to avoid the Malloreans but Cyradis appears and reveals their location by making Toth carry Ce'Nedra into the open. Durnik tells Toth that they are no longer friends. The captain tells them they are being taken to Rak Hagga to meet Zakath
