Eponine Reviews

Okay this may be a little contraversial but remember, no opinion in here is gospel. If you disagree with a review, want to add to a existing one or add a review feel free to e-mail me. I've started the ball rolling with a few of mine.

Frances Ruffelle
My personal favourite. Her voice is amazing, so distictive and conveys so much emotion. She sounds angry and bitter in "Plumet Attack" and then goes from dreamy to despairing in "On My Own". It's the perfect Eponine voice. When she sings "A Little Fall of Rain" I'm on the verge of tears by the end every time. I admit I've only heard her as Eponine but I've seen her act in something else and she was amazing. To me she looks and sounds the part. The phrase "Original and Best" comes to mind here. - Lynsey

Lea Salonga
I love Lea too! I think she's amazing. Her voice is outstanding. I've only seen her as Eponine in the TAC and 'Hey Mr Producer' but that was enough for me. Her Eponine is more like Eponine in the book. She goes from strong agression in "Plumet Attack" to such tenderness in "A Little Fall of Rain". Her rendition of "On My Own" is surpassed only by Frances Ruffelle. The one thing not quite right about her Eponine is that she sounds too well spoken. I also prefer her 'Hey Mr Producer' Eponine to her TAC Eponine. - Lynsey

Jacinta Whyte
This is who I saw when I went to see Les Mis (Jan 1994, Edinburgh Playhouse) Unfortunately I can't remember much of it because I was a bit ill and up in 'the Gods'. However, I do remember that she was brilliant at the Rue Plumet part, "On My Own" and "A Little Fall Of Rain". - Lynsey

Meridith Braun
I've only heard her "On My Own" on the Manchester Highlights recording but she sang it brilliantly. However, like Lea, she sounds too well spoken. - Lynsey

Linzi Hateley
I saw her on the Les Mis 'Stage by Stage' video singing "On My Own". She looks the part and sings brilliantly. I'd like to hear more of her in Les Mis (I have a recording of her as the narrator in the OLC of the new 'Joseph' and she's great in that too) - Lynsey

Kaho Shimada
She's on both Japanese recordings and the CSR. I've heard her in the CSR and a few sound clips of the Japaneses Red Cast Recording. She's amazing. Her voice fits the part well. There were a few pronunciation mistakes on the CSR but considering that she hadn't spoken English before that can be overlooked. Her scream in "Plumet Attack" on the Japanese Red Cast Recording is one of the best I've heard! - Lynsey

Gemma Wardle
I saw her in the Birmingham Production. I was already a bit of a fan as I'd heard her as Serena in Fame (Original London Cast Recording) She was brilliant as Eponine. She was funny when she could be but also very serious. Her interjections in AHFOL were so mournful. At the beginning of Plumet Attack she was panicky but was really agressive towards the gang when they noticed her. When she sang OMO I was in tears and also during ALFOR. She looked so happy to be in Marius' arms. One of my definite favourites. - Lynsey

Sutton Foster
Saw her in Sacremento. Well, I really have no one to compare her preformance to, this was my first experience seeing Les Misérables. I felt that her performance was wonderful...she was amazing, the songs were beautiful, and so belivable.- Suisun_gal
