In 397 A.D.The Roman commander, Stilicho, came to Britain and repelled an attack by Picts, Irish and Saxons in defense of Roman territory held. Sáraigh was among those who fought against them and was captured. Sáraigh was then held as an important hostage in exchange for no further attacks for two years. By envoy, his safety was guaranteed, and over a couple months as hostage, Sáraigh proved his trustworthiness and loyalty to the Roman Empire. At the end of his ransom, Sáraigh recieved his freedom and a place in the legion as a Roman citizen.
Fiach returned to Hibernia with the Roman who captured him, to prove his safety and good health to his family. The Roman and his father made peace and became allies. All other hostages were returned, and Sáraigh returned voluntarily to Britannia and is now the Standard-Bearer or Vexilifer of COH.III.BRIT.EQ.
