Rubrius Erasimus was born in Rome in 382, to Cassiopeia Eustacia, daughter of a wealth Roman merchant, and Tiberius Rubrius Flavius, personal guard to General Lucius Antius Dacius, Commander of Legio II Gemina in Italia with the Field Army.

Born into such a prominent plebian household, it was only fitting that the only son of a Praetorian follow in his father’s footsteps, so teaching began early. By the age of 15, Rubrius was already knowledgeable in many forms of weaponry and combat. But he wanted something more, and began training on a friend’s horse. He found he had a knack for the equestrian arts, and soon became a proficient horseman.

At the age of 17, Rubrius asked his father to recommend him for service in the Legions. His father, seeing his determination and desire to serve in a way other than his own, proudly wrote the letter, and Rubrius found himself assigned to Legio XX Valeria Victrix in Germania, under the command of Caius Livius Varus Germanicus, Praefectus of an Auxiliary Cohort assigned to the border forts along the Rhenus.

During a campaign along the Rhenus, Rubrius met and married a daughter of a Praefect, much to the chagrin of his superiors, who thought that family life would be too difficult for a soldier in his position. Within a few years they had 4 children, his wife dying giving birth to the youngest. The children spend much of their time with Rubrius’ father and mother, who moved to the Provincia so that the children may be nearer to their father. Upon word of advancing hordes of invaders, Rubrius sent his family to Germanicus’ home in Britannia.

Given the choice to remain with the Frontier Army or follow Germanicus in his reassignment to General Stilicho’s personal Cohortes Palatinae, Rubrius decided to remain loyal to his friend and teacher, and follow. Their travails led them eventually back to Britannia.

Rubrius has remained at Germanicus’ side through many campaigns, and recently became his Contubernalis. Content with his position within the Cohort that Germanicus now leads, Rubrius strives to be a true son of Rome, by honoring his country, his Legio and his Cohort, and doing his best to be a good father to his daughter and three sons.
