JOHN C. MIDBY
PRODUCER

Born and raised in Las Vegas, John sought risk in the film business not the crap tables (of course that would be a much safer bet). Having put himself through undergraduate college producing punk rock concerts he thought it might be a gas (read necessity) to pay his way through Graduate Film School by producing and directing films. Out of this came an hour length documentary, "Preservation at Ground Zero" (aired on PBS);
"A Kiss In The Dreamhouse" (a festival favorite short); and some shorts on Confessions and Fantasies (for Showtime). There was also the usual slate of rent-paying industrial and short documentary projects. Finally he earned his M.F.A. from Loyola Marymount University.

John met Fran Rzeznik and Zinka Benton years ago on a documentary and hoped that he might be able to work with them on a feature one day. That day came not too long after he produced his first feature film "The Taste of Pomegranate." Done on a micro-budget, the 1890's costume drama showed that John could get a lot on the screen for very little money and Zinka hired him to ply his talents in physical production on "Equinox Knocks."

Now came the fun part, re-locating to Austin, Texas. As a way of acclimatizing themselves to the coming onslaught of heat and humidity, Fran and John drove from L.A. to Austin virtually non-stop without air conditioning. They knew that Texas is like a blast furnace in the summer... of course they didn't know

The Austin groundwork had been lain by Fran and Zinka but there was still the matter of assembling a film army. Rapid-fire, John built a great crew, scored incredible equipment deals, devised a workable schedule (no small feat with little money and few days) and was the General for the logistical team that would work together to make the movie happen. The production wrapped on schedule after 24 days of sweat, not enough sleep and boundless dedication.

For the record, John hotly denies the rumor that he did it all to play the part of the Harvard Scout. However, we must note that he has played a part in every feature he's worked on.
Coincidence ?

BRIAN TURNER
Editor

Brian Turner is the Editor as well as the Digital Visual Effects Designer/Compositor for Equinox Knocks. He attended the prestigious Berklee College of Music in Boston where he studied Music Production and Engineering, specializing in sound for films. He soon realized it was the picture he wanted to cut, not just the sound. After transferring to Hofstra University in NY, he graduated with a degree in Communications specializing in Film Editing.

After College, Brian moved out to CA and immediately began working jobs in post houses around town. Some of his past jobs include a trailer house in West Hollywood as well as a staff position at FilmCore, where he spent years cutting commercials. It was when he went freelance that he met up with Fran Rzeznik and Zinka Benton on projects for GRB Entertainment and the three have been inseparable since. With many shows and series completed together and a symbiotic relationship established, Brian was introduced to Equinox Knocks early in the script stage. It was love at first sight. "I've got to cut this!," were his exact words.

While the cast and crew were filming in Texas, the editing equipment was assembled in Brian's home in Los Angeles. For over 2 months, he worked other jobs during the day and would still come home and edit the film all night long. His wife always made sure there was something good to eat for all of us and we watched his son, Noah grow up in front of our eyes. We look forward to future productions to be cut by Brian.

CHRISTOPHER RIFE
COMPOSER

Chris first considered writing music for film after his mother heard him noodling at the piano one day and suggested that his noodlings had a "real evocative visual quality." He asked her what she had been smoking and was promptly grounded.

A few short months later Chris entered the Berklee College of Music where writing music to picture became his passion. After graduating from Berklee in 1989 with a degree in Film Scoring, Chris worked in Boston writing music for a variety of commercials and documentaries including the Emmy nominated PBS series "Columbus and the Age of Discovery". His advertising work has been featured in spots for "McDonalds", "New England Telephone" and "ESPN".

Since moving to Los Angeles in 1992, Chris has worked on a range of projects including animated series such as "X-Men" and "Dark Stalkers", trailers for feature films such as "The Fifth Element" from Columbia pictures, "Pocahantas" for Disney, and "She's the One" from Miramax.

Most of his time has been spent composing for Television series such as "Nova", "Storm Warning", "Earth's Fury" and a multitude of other documentaries and docudramas. It was while scoring an early episode of "Storm Warning" that he first met

Fran Rzeznik. A mere year and a half later Fran and Zinka approached Chris about the music for their first feature "Equinox Knocks." After an initial screening, he decided this film was a true original, both clever and funny. He insisted he had to do the music. Scoring "Equinox Knocks" has been Chris's most challenging and rewarding project to date. Chris looks forward to working on Fran and Zinka's upcoming features, comforted by the knowledge that if they decide to use another composer he knows where they live.
