The proposing letter (Lake Como, November 1997)
My Love
I still call you that for you still are my love and always will be. I hope the look that I’ve seen in your eyes these last few weeks means that I’m once again your love. That you have found it in your heart to forgive me. That you long for us to be reunited as much as I do.
If I’m right, I will know it when you arrive at the main square in town in front of the church. The mayor has agreed to marry us this afternoon. If you don’t come, I will know I was wrong. I will leave you in peace and never again ask for what you’re not willing or able to give.
I love you, Stephanie.
Please be my wife,
Eric.
